There are many reasons why University of Phoenix is just a shadow of what it was. Some people blame government regulation, others blame the relentless pursuit of quarterly profits and corrupt CEOs like TN. But having talked to co-founder John D. Murphy and others over the years, what I found out is that University of Phoenix began failing much earlier, when big US companies decided not to invest as much in in their workforce. UoPX is a symptom of a much larger problem: a system that cared less about workers, a system that looks at labor costs as something to be reduced rather than an investment. When that happened, many US companies stopped paying for workers to get degrees or additional training. Now our most powerful companies with workers are Amazon, Walmart, Yum Brands, McDonalds...Other powerful companies have a small number of workers--and few are unionized.
