Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Chatter on the floor in Schenectady

In 273 an off the record chat with union workers (not onion reps) and with company management. The management has said “ is almost certain that a nice size restructuring will take place in 273 and will effect 66. Just look around people doing almost nothing in 273 the workload is not what everyone thinks it is.”

Well now!

GE lands a $6.8 Billion dollar deal. That sounds all great and dandy. Now in which state will that deal be worked? If the work is done in a state like CA or NY, you can kiss your profits goodbye and saddle up for a loss. Pick a business friendly state and there's an actual profit to be had. If all of the states that GE is in aren't business friendly anymore, do I need to spell the rest out for you?

The NY comment is correct. There is a ton of wind work coming in NY out by Buffalo and we are only taking it because we have no choice. If we had a healthy balance sheet ONW would pass on it. Its almost impossible to do work in NY. It now just like doing work in France.

@4bge+1f1VQUgB. That may be true if you work for aviation, power is still not safe.

Schenectady has a plan to trim the fat. They just need the right excuse to implement it. People can knock "low skill" or "no skills" people all they want. In the end, they will probably be the most useful long term wise and that would make them the safest. Security for the higher skilled will come at a cost. That cost will be in the form of a pay cut. Most will refuse it because they are largely indebt and their egos won't allow them to take the cut. So they will go out on their own and find that all the positions are full and nobody is looking for their skills. Schenectady and all of NY has become too costly for everything. It's not going to get cheaper or even hold still just for GE. There are other competitors that aren't dealing with this burden. Open your eyes and get a clue!!

I believe it it’s going to happen, just like the machinists program all the less senior t rate were told they could not be bumped out of their job training. They just cut the whole training program. So yeah 66 could be gone and the un-bump’s will be out the door too.

Its laughable that today, people in 301 still think that a major layoff in Schenectady is gonna effect 66 to the level they think. There is about a dozen folks in 66 production jobs that could be effected. Thats it, its that small! When no one was listening, a job code was created that is un bump-able. Add to that those in the program that are guaranteed, IN WRITING, that they cant be laid off! Keep talking bs, many are good at it. Someday, you may get a clue, and smarten up.
