This may be a d-mb question but would it be illegal to lay off people without giving them severance pay? I haven't been here long, but I'm terrified of the thought that they would cut someone who has worked here for 15 or more years without a package. That would be terrible. However, nothing would surprise me anymore.

Allstate’s mounting loss ratio combined with customer defections leaves no severance for the rank and file. Remember- Shareholders first, Tommy and Crew second, and maybe customer claims in the motor club third. Rank and file are lower than pond sc-m in the grand scheme of things!
There were layoffs in the CCC in 2014 and 2016 where there was no severance paid out. Severance pay is not a legal requirement.
severance policies can change at any time, with or without notice.
Allstate has a severance policy three adhere to at this time. If they were to change the severance policy it would have to be changed within the employee handbook. They would let us know by burying the information within many documents and layers, but it would get out and we would know.
