Former colleague of mine was laid off in 2020 during the purge (she won't post here). A day after they were let go, their manager inquired if they would stay on for a month as a consultant to work with them to help finalizing things. They were told that it would be best to for them to not burn bridges (haha). The former staff member declined. Now they are working for a competitor in a managerial capacity, their former manager at Pembina had a jr. level person message them on LinkedIn inquiring about their thoughts with a new software integration and asked for this person to review documentation without compensation. We are all expendable in the eyes of management but there is still an insincere expectation of loyalty from them on us. Never help them out post layoff. You owe them nothing.
