Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Looks like the attrition slowed down a bit?

For a while I thought all my colleagues would leave. No one has given notice for a long time now. Is it that most of those who intended to leave have already left, or do some still intend to leave after the New Year's?

Oxy doesn't have greatest track record when it comes to debt reduction so the future should be interesting. The last method for debt reduction was to spin off the heavy oil assets into a new company and send the Oxy debt with them. Will Vicki try that again? Want would the new debt burden company be? Permian Basin? Old Anadarko GOM Assets?

“I’ve convinced both my previous and current operator to reject applicants from Oxy.” Say @9rlu. Simply said, no you have not. Nobody believes you.

Always so predictable hooking the bigots.

Notice the complete lack of any fact based response on any adult level at all defending any part of Oxy. Just the usual tantrum and name calling.

Such a typical advertisement for Oxy. Lol.

Karma troll isn’t the only one complaining about stock price and wfh( where it isn’t warranted). You need to realize the Oxy employees are a very small percentage of people with interests in Oxy. Quit thinking because you work for the company that you are superior to all. You are just a little person in the big pool. Oxy management has harmed many people with their poor decision. Time for institutional investors to fight back in the next vote.

I just realized one of the guys always complaining about our stock and WFH is Karma Troll (@9rlu).

Continuing to own the stock of a company he openly despises is a bizarre blend of hypocrisy and separation anxiety disorder. He'd make an interesting subject for a psychology dissertation.

@9rlu+1erNipha

So you hate bigotry but yet you believe in making decisions on the stereotype in your mind that exists about Oxy people. You are really quite the hypocrite.

@5ieh. Lol. Says the people stuck on a bigoted sinking ship with the worst track record of any company in O+G. I’ve convinced both my previous and current operator to reject applicants from Oxy. Bigotry isn’t tolerated here the way it is at Oxy, neither is the contempt for responsible safety or ethical operations. We aren’t eroding 70% of OUR company value taking on board that level of incompetence.

@3gkz, you are wrong. Employers looking to hire won’t penalize an applicant based on working for Oxy. In short, most reasonable people understand this was a decision of senior leadership. Even some of those who got the boot have safely landed. If you’re contemplating moving on, don’t let this type of company hatred scare you off.

Oxy has a great name or at least it did before the anadarko acquisition. Those who came from a major to Oxy would have no trouble finding a new position elsewhere. Those coming from a service company or smaller independent may have a problem.

Attrition slowed? Who would have them with Oxy on their resume? Like trying to be a financial advisor with Lehman Bros on your resume.

Besides, Oxy take the garbage from other companies who couldn’t hack it at a professional organization or bottom feeders from Kansas universities.

@3zxa, Oxy compensates employees based on market conditions just like the $$ paid to contractors. It would love to chop that amount in half if it could, but then it would not retain employees. It has to remain competitive to stay in business.

Why has Oxy stock not performed well? Should this company even give out bonuses when it is doing so poorly?

@2vqz, what an ignorant point of view. Stock awarded to an employee is not a gift, just like your salary and bonus is not a gift. It’s part of the total compensation package. Whether purchased with “their own money” or earned is irrelevant. Your experience working with these employees is your own. I’ve never known anyone with the attitude you describe.

Be honest @2vqz+, you just made all of that up. Or was that in your BUS 401 class last year?

A free-loading stock holder is a person who acquired most, if not all, of their position through a company-sponsored gifting program, usually to ensure the person’s service over a fixed number of years. The only uncontrollable cost to the employee was a tax to the Federal government. Depending on the duration of the employee’s participation in the program, a significant windfall was possible. Contrast this with how retail investors acquire stock by having to purchase it with their own money.

A few of these ex-employees believe their freely-acquired positions entitle them to dictate company policy regarding bonuses and working conditions for current employees. Although there’s nothing wrong with acquiring a massive stock position at almost no cost via the company, there is something wrong with criticizing how the company compensates current employees.

Yes, the APC acquisition was an epic blunder, and is still the reason the stock and dividend are where they are today, but please dial down the hypocrisy regarding how the company compensates the current rank and file.

It was your supreme leadership that screwed us all. That purchase was a terrible move and lots of people should have lost their jobs over that.

Not that I’m one (I’m not), but what exactly is a “free-loading stock holder” comrade?

The company knows who’s more important for its survival, so it prefers to pay hard working employees a bonus instead of free-loading stock holders a competitive dividend. Don’t like it? Then get a job or sell your Oxy position and reinvest in a company that does pay a competitive dividend.

If you are not getting a bonus why should you stay. Does anyone really think they deserve a bonus? Working from home should take the place of a bonus.
