Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Coworker left for lower pay

Other than the ever-present threat of more layoffs, I like working here. Pay is good, the work is engaging and my coworkers are all nice folks. That's why it's confusing to me that somebody would be willing to take a 20 percent pay cut just to walk away from here. Do people really hate it here that much? Why?

I left the company last fall and for lower pay as well. Best decision I've ever made. No more 12 hour stress filled days. Back to 40 hour work weeks at my new place. I forgot what that was like....

Do you refer to the "Work your Way" initiative?

What a d-mb program from HR!

most incentives have been cut as the cent-pinching management would spend hundreds of thousands on white elephants and then demand you recycle your plastic cup because every cent counts . Its incredulous to see over the last 4 years how many great employees have left the company. The incentives have been cut to show how big management are at ordering about the production staff. The very same people who love getting their green scorecards ticked because their pay rise means more than a department employee's $100 at Christmas, Mr Roman, at least had the decency to give something in the everyday wins, 25 bucks out of the shareholders account

The person who left probably knew they were getting cut or were no vax

I'm not the person you are referring to but recalling a prior experience: I left for lower pay because the new position offered more room for promotions and potential for much higher pay at a faster pace than if I were to stay where I was. I also needed to acquire much needed skills for long term job security in the general industry and not be stuck in the restrictive skill set that is only relevant to the firm.

Also, the new workplace offered much better benefits with more generous 401k matching so that overall compensation was still higher.

Besides the fact this is an HR shill. You could just ask your coworker that left. But from my perspective, the leadership does not hold people accountable, they are happy with the status quo. Growth target of 8%, end up at 0%, and act like everything is fine. This is not okay. This is how companies die, people don't feel valued, their contributions don't matter because leadership doesn't care. Would rather be somewhere valued, with coworkers that care and have challenging goals and rewards to work towards.
