Thread regarding ExxonMobil Singapore layoffs

Has anybody settled for a less paying job after EM?

I have been job-hunting for a couple of months, as I made a firm decision to leave EM after 10 years. I just can’t take the toxicity, the politics, and the ever present fear of layoffs was just the last straw.
I applied at many companies, mostly in the O&G sector. I have managed to get a couple of offers, but they are all less paying jobs than the one I have right now. A buddy of mine says that it is normal and usual to be offered a smaller amount in the beginning but that there is a possibility to advance faster to a same or a better pay grade than the one I have right now.
Has anyone been down this road and settled for a job with less pay just to leave EM? It would be nice to hear some experiences from people that have already left, even though I doubt there are a lot of those people on this board. Some good advice will do too.

By the way, you have learning curve to overcome if you choose to join new company. It take time to adapt but think about having mid range package (meaning without MPC) with much more workload. It can be (maybe) better off restart elsewhere with no negative memory from the current company

I’ve left after working in this company more than 10 years too! Although I am not working in O&G sector anymore. But it seem this company salary and benefits is better than other companies in this sector (but not the best and likely to drop further and closer to mid market rate). On other hand, other companies may not be so demanding and this view was supported by my friend who joined in from other companies. They saw the 10% increase is annual salary but job scope is much more. So, overall it is similar. Therefore, you have to weight what you need vs what you want vs mental well-being. I assume you choose to depart because of mental well-being which many left because of nepotism. If this is the case, it happen everywhere but it is a lot worst in this company (growing without intervention). Also, I think they are putting over-ki----g work process that strain the entire workforce (with little incremental benefits to whatever added). I do not know you but I support your decision no matter which path you decide
