"...a former GE Aviation engineer, told the committee that after he identified problems with an engine being developed for the new Boeing 777X, he was threatened with termination. He was later given work on the engine under a “coaching plan” that would have the effect of “diminishing” his ability to act on the government’s behalf.

General Electric did not immediately respond to a request for comment."

Mr. Kucera's experience doesn't square with my own. In 30 years I had occasion to raise two safety issues and both were dealt with IMMEDIATELY. One was an isolated manufacturing issue which was resolved that same day and procedures were changed to make sure it never happened again. The other was a design issue, and within an hour we received word that the issue was already being addressed. In both cases I was thanked warmly for speaking up and got a good night's sleep. I've never seen any evidence that passenger safety has not been our first priority.

Probably had nothing to do with the engineer finding issues with the engine still in its testing stages. He's probably the guy that heats his sardines in the break room microwave everyday at lunch, and doesn't cover them with a paper towel.

Never let safety get in the way of a good payday.
