You might be in a relatively better position after the merger even though it'll be a full circle.

Nah, you are much better off working at a great company like Sabic where english is a 2nd language

Same tu-d different smell. Probable a better company culture then forced ranking. With that said I swapped to CVX about 8 years ago. Sounds like Exxon deteriorated more since then.

People posting here are right. Fake, forced ranking, yearly PIPs targeting experienced workers and young employees as decoys make a lot of difference. Any layoff is traumatic but I would rather take repeated, honest layoffs with decent severance package over disguised layoffs through PIP, which are also said to be an “employee benefit”, adding insult to injury.

Only if they pay you more. Worked for both and they are both a sh***t show and don’t believe either of them if they promise you development and a career. Look out for yourself. Get a good manager and treat it as a job that provide a means to an end. Otherwise you’ll lose your mental state….

Do the “benefits” at CVX include big, endless PIPs? (As our HR told us, they are “good for us”).

#1 question to consider - do they have forced ranking?

@OP Something-something different toilet.

Honestly, there’s no point in leaving one for the other, but you do you. Good luck.

Worked for both.

They are about the same but I don't really care about bonuses if my base is higher. Put the money in my pocket now.

CVX retirement benefits are 30% lower but match is 8% vs 7%. Based pay is a bit lower but there is annual cash bonus. Otherwise company is similar.

Very dependent on your group/new boss. I have several friends at CVX and it’s more or less the same over there with slightly different flavors of the month.

I've just started a new job a CVX. I left XOM at the end of November. Couldn't be happier. I work M&F from home. Great pay and bennies.

Go for it, more benefits at CVX incl annual bonus (most of XOM, esp low rank don't have bonuses), and for pension, you could contribute to and make you a millionaire faster. Go!

I would leave XOM for other industries entirely, otherwise might as well stay put within O&G
