Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

January 2022 plans

Setting up to share a thread about your wishes and plans.

I will stay first while working on my exit plan. Hopefully I can secure job offer by March 2022 so that they need to figure out another candidate for NI/NSI; was ranked Good in this cycle

@1ufy+1ehTbFVl - sometimes it worth it to take a slight paycut now, if you are going to gain more in the future. Gaining does not have to mean monetary, but also work conditions etc...make sure that your future company do not have ranking process as part of their performance assessment!

I’m going to make a ton of money for ExxonMobil and hopefully get promoted to the next CL. I’m not leaving, I enjoy my job and I like the people I work with. I hope there is a pay raise in my future, but if not, I will stick with it. I’m too old to start over and too young to retire. I just have to buckle down.

"Taking three PHs the first three working days of 2022"

That is going to be the telltale sign right there. I'm sure you will not be the only one.

There is zero work family balance in hedge funds and private equity. "You eat what you ki-l" so pay is fantastic when you close a big deal...but the hours are 80-90 hours per week. Oftentimes, between deals the pay is just OK and you spend many hours looking for next payout; this pay is volatile and uncertain. Very high risk-reward though if you can handle the hours and the uncertainty

No worries about missing on the EM pension. It’s only on paper at this point, for regular employees.

Taking three PHs the first three working days of 2022 and resigning the day I return... and taking my full 2022 vacation payout shortly thereafter. Accepted a job with a tech/SaaS company of about 1,200 employees that just went public, is very successful, and growing rapidly. The company has been rated a best place to work year after year, and the job/position is a lateral move in terms of salary, but is 100% remote, has incredible benefits (Internet covered, mobile plan covered, home office allotment, monthly fitness allotment, crazy good medical/dental/vision, HSA that employer contributes heavily to, 6% 401K match, generous annual salary treatment and RSU bonus if the company meets it's yearly goals, etc... oh, and NO FU----G RANKING SYSTEM). The only thing it's missing that XOM offers is the pension. All of this is nothing compared to the physical, mental, and emotional health boost I'll surely get after leaving XOM. I don't list the benefits above to brag, I'm doing it so those visiting this forum will know that there are other places out there that can match or easily surpass XOM in almost every way. Get out of there (XOM) while the market is hot and find yourself a new job and a happier, healthier life. XOM does not deserve you, and you deserve BETTER.

Recruiters are reaching out again. Between those calls and my own efforts, I hope I’m not around past March. It’ll save me from having to fill out another dreadful PDS form. I really don’t want to be here when attrition hits hard too.

Spoken to a major NOC - horrible company but crazy money - a start-up looking for experience in O&G - pay looks good and management are connecting with Bill Gates - also meeting a hedge fund for clean energy in Jan - $$ perks might be significantly better than ExxonMobil but would guess there’s a work life balance change - and finally have submitted five applications to a number of big tech corps…

I have accepted that EM is not for me and I wish others all the best whatever they decide.

Good luck people and enjoy the festivities!

How's this for a slap across the face? Completed and passed the PIP on 11/30/21. The next day I resigned. While completing the PIP i was able to land a better job. Pays a bit less but they actually have a LTI and Performance Bonus program. So I have the opportunity to make more. There is life after Exxon. Thank god.

@OP+1ehTbFVl - first enjoy the upcoming holiday season (if you celebrate it)...go into new year 2022 with fresh start-up and motivation....many company will start advertise new opening after new year because they know that many people usually have new resolution at the beginning of the year....
Keep looking and wish you all the best for your new job in 2022!
