If that's all there is to know about running a company than anyone would be able to do it. It wouldn't matter who is on top, because everyone knows how to give layoffs to people. Cut employees, survivors who have no other option will do more work and that's it, until the next round of layouts. However, this is not sustainable.
I wonder, do they know anything other than making cuts? Do they know how to prevent layoffs? They don't seem to care about preventing layoffs at all.

Seriously, why would anyone act surprised when a corporation would layoff/re-hire folks as contractors? Right out of their playbook. Calgary is such a funny place with the corporate $ worship... and then when folks are treated like a number, they act betrayed and slighted. Cenovus, Suncor, Pembina, Enbridge are no different than Kellogg, Coke, Nestle, etc., with their overall objectives. I laugh at how corporate Calgary (and the city) play up the whole façade of a "classy cowboy culture, everything done on a handshake and with integrity.", when in reality it's the most two-faced, cutthroat, greedy city I've worked/lived in. ... and I've lived here for 39 years. So not a new eastern creep/b-m.
They layoff 1,000 and then hire back 800 as contractors. They layoff 1,500 and then hire back 1,200. It’s a joke. All BS. What a poorly run company and the managers sure aren’t going to do any work. With an increase of $3B of capital spend they will hire contractors to do the work. They like contractors because they don’t call out the bullying and harassment. When you leave you realize how f’d up that company is and it’s not worth your time or stress. I truly hope this company sinks like the titanic and the good people get out. It truly is the company that everyone hates.
Yes, I’m sure this is the very last layoff round Cenovus will do in 2022. Haha. Good luck!
Cenovus hasn't even completed the 2100 planned earlier this year approx 600 left to go plus 2022 will have it's own targets so 1000 sounds correct and reasonable!!
Zero chance 1-1.5k will be let go next year. If I had to make a conservative guess, 400. . . Whatever is on Poorboy/doughboy's performance contract.
2022 will be another year of major cuts!! Another 1000-1500 will be purged
It’s their own mistake for hiring too many people to begin with. It’s criminal really
This has been the "strategy" since 2017.
