Google execs tell employees they aren’t responding to inflation

With across the board increases. I am no sunshine pumper but there needs to be some balancing views on here regarding what EM is doing.

For those saying EM leadership is deaf to the employees’ needs and that at a minimum there should be an inflationary increase over last 2 years (some people were seriously expecting a minimum 8% increase), this is evidence it’s not just EM. This is corporate America.

Where did you get that? You have a dissenting voice - people are expressing the dissent to your dissent.

It is not acceptable to have a dissenting view on this board. You must bow down to the critics. It is only acceptable to kiss the rear of the guys who complain about brown mowers non-stop. Get with it, comrade!

XOM explicitly doesn't include Google in our salary benchmarking (because it would obviously make us look terrible and drive up salaries). Given that decision internally, I don't see how what they're doing is relevant here.

WRT variable pay....
I'm at an O&G company with variable pay. Our intellectual capital is still leaving for Amazon and Google because they pay better. So, our base is low, bonuses were non existent for 2 years, and the culture is toxic and competitive. I came to this site to see if there are big differences. The only real difference I see is that people are more vocal on this site. We have the same problems and people just silently leave. Anything we do online at IS monitored and we know it, so we don't post. If access to email goes to our phone that is also monitored.

Right, entry level (E3) at Google makes $120k base + stock + bonus. At xom $120k is what a senior developer with 10+ years gets. Stop comparing until you understand the numbers and until xom can match Google first. Ignorant people like you are those who have made xom the s-thole today.

Who the fu-k cares about Google? EM is bleeding people and it's good business to figure out a way to stem the tide.

Too bad DW and hid minions did not read this article before they voted themselves huge salary increases, RUSSIA, and the accounting gimmick of backing out the $20 billion XTO write off to improve the EPS so they could award themselves a cash bonus. Go away OP, you are an Executive minion of HR or PR that benefited from the corruption.

Alternative viewpoint: What Google did was also greedy and stupid.

But their employees haven’t had to deal with gestures to nearly everything EM has done for the last 3 years.

The solution is variable pay. I voiced this numerous times to my superiors probably leading to my layoff. If you share the wealth a little during the good times, it goes a long way towards having a good relationship with your employees. Then when the times are not as good, you can keep your payroll lower because of the variable component of the compensation package (generally base salaries are lower in a system with variable pay). It makes it much easier to weather the storm, and retain intellectual capital. I spoke to a former colleague yesterday, he told me my former group doesn’t have a single person working the asset that was there in December 2020. You simply can not operate an upstream company like that.
