Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

What bothers you the most at GM?

Personally, I don't have many objections, except that I would like to be a little less overwhelmed with work and have a better work-life balance. At the moment I have so much work to do that I can't get enough rest. I hope this is just a phase.

GM is essentially a socialist entity. When they can't compete, they just get a taxpayer-funded bailout.

When people say they're glad they work for GM so they know which cars not to buy because of issues. That and when your friends complain about the issues like you are the one that put out that cr@p. You represent GM and GM represents you and it's an embarrassment.

The 9-box stack ranking that occurs behind closed doors ever year. Top performers are anonymously pitted against each other and you are told you need to “outshine” other people you may be unaware of. It shows how empty and meaningless the “one team” behavior is if I’m competing against my coworkers for scraps. I stopped playing the game a long time ago because I like seeing my family on nights and weekends. Managers and directors abuse the system to wring insane hours out of the try hards in exchange for a letter bump. No thanks.

Sure, it has nothing to do with mass layoffs and an abusive company culture. You are on a layoff site complaining about people complaining about layoffs. You are calling names like a child. You are inferring mental illness on people you do not know. That makes you the delusional one. People like you are the problem at General Motors. Here's a GM line for you...if you don't like it, go somewhere else.

General Motors has more general competency than most companies I've worked at. It is this website specifically, with anonymous posting and a focus around attracting disgruntled workers and/or those with an agenda, which makes for a nuthouse. You can look at any board here, not just GM. It is the same all around. Antivax and schitzoposting as far as the eye can see.

What bothers me the most?

The fact that my promotion or merit increase depends on perception rather than my hard work and contributions.

Also, sh---y culture that rewards perception rather than true performance.

Keep talking trash. If you're work load is small it's probably for a reason.

As if people don't realize that workload will vary for employees of one of the largest companies in the world?

And it is not trash talk to speak honestly about the posts here. Look around and there is clearly a lot of mental illness.

I like that a response to a post about an overwhelming workload is someone saying they love GM and the workload is tiny followed by some trash talk. This is actually a realistic cross-section of General Motors.

Just the corporate politics but it is the same at any large company. Over all I love my job, benefits are wonderful, workload is tiny, etc. I just come here to see all the crazy people posting.

The whole Government Motors thing.

GM is too deep in bed with politicians. The interactions are always transparent af quid pro quo.

That happened to me at in Pontiac and my coworkers spread rumors that I was drinking on the job. In other words... it could be worse. In even more other words...if you're doing that much work, somebody's going think you are making them look bad.
