I was a first year employee ranked NI after recovering $150,000 in overpayments for XOM, amongst other accomplishments. I waited until the last decision day and took the PIL package. My supervisor was stunned, as he genuinely expected me to take the PIP and work through it because of my age and lack of experience. I turned in my laptop that same day. Fortunately for me, I know my worth. I took the three month severance and I have been great ever since. I have now secured a job offer from another F500 company for $20k more than I was making at ExxonMobil. This is before bonuses, a 401k match and the employee stock discount. I’m only in the second year of my career. I also established my own document processing business. I say all of this to say that the MLRP DOES NOT define you. Exxon was too stupid to see what they had in front of them, so I left them behind. And I’m glad that I did. If you’re in my position and you’re being told to stay at ExxonMobil because no one will want to hire you with your lack of experience, use my experience as a testimony to the fact that this is not true. My new job barely even asked about ExxonMobil and never asked me why I was leaving. So long XOM, thanks for the $10,000 relocation package.

It does get better! To the person saying one year is not enough to give advice - wrong.
This is a big issue in EM culture. No respect for new ideas or change. After two decades - I waited till decision day and also left. Life is good.
Are you giving thanks for being relocated to TX?
for me, that was the first finger they cut off.
Congratulations on your new company and raise. It is sad to see that first-year employees are now ranked in the NI and NSI categories.
The key reason(s) that you are ranked in NI and NSI is to satisfy the age discrimination bell curve so that much higher salary older employees can also be ranked NI and NSI.
OP here. $150k is technically chump change in XOM land but I was only ever handling chump change in my position in the first place lol. The reasoning behind my NI ranking was that they said that I was too reliant on my predecessor. The predecessor that left the company my third month being there, the one that was supposed to be training me since this was literally my first job, and the one that made the mistakes that I had to recover the money for in the first place. It was flagrant bu-----t that I refused to stand for. But all is well that ends well, right? I wish everyone the best of luck and thanks for your well wishes.
Haha Good one! Thanks for the cheer. Fu-k EM
150k is chump change at XOM
Lol wow $150K that’s incredible congrats
Let me guess...XTO?
Congratulations! Too bad for XOM , good luck in your new career.
Thanks for sharing, yours is a touching story.
I’m happy for you that you know your worth and didn’t let them stick it to you. I wish more people felt the same and didn’t put up with all the bu-----t.
You could have been put into NSI to balance their efforts to remove older workers.
In your case, it backfilred for them.
