Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Two weeks paid if giving notice?

At my last job at another insurance company I gave 2 weeks notice. They said good luck but you have to leave now, and paid me for 2 weeks. Does Allstate do that?

The same happened to me surprisingly. Their pettiness and cheap nature knows no ends. No possibility of boomerang situation happening here.

The fact that they have this policy tells your everything you need to know about the leadership and culture of the company. They want you gone with no pay the second you indicate you’re leaving. They’re confident they don’t need your input or value. You’re very disposable to them.

The firing part is ok but they also terminate your pay which is HIGHLY unethical and not a standard practice. It’s a shame this company sunk to such levels.

You all need to think for yourselves and stop thinking of your lowly CSL. Tell them you’re leaving on the Friday before you start your new gig. Half a-s your work for those two weeks prior. If they push back asking for more notice—tell them you have read the HR policy.

You’re at will and have no obligation to give notice. They can fire you anytime as well without notice. It’s a shameful way to do business but that’s the reality of it. Notice is old school.

Just happened to me. Try to give notice to keep a good reference and got sc--wed. Glad I left but I didn't think I'd have to save up to do so.

Treat them as they’ll treat you. I’ve seen it happen countless times in my career anytime someone had the nerve to quit. They’ll turn on you in a heartbeat. You’ve been warned.

I knew the policy and gave my notice early on a Friday, beginning with my new company the following Monday. My CSL didn’t like it but I had no choice.

It’s not so much that they terminate you on the spot, it’s the fact that they also don’t pay you. It’s legal but very unethical. They have literally zero self awareness about the damage they’ve done to their brand. They also eliminate any boomerang situation which, particularly in this market is absolutely ridiculous.

Tread very lightly with these sheisters. Don’t tell them ANYTHING. Walk away from the job if you have to. It doesn’t matter how many years you put in, it doesn’t matter who you know, it doesn’t matter your relationship with your leader. Leave them hanging at 3:00 on a Friday and start your new gig on Monday. Take it from someone who tried to do the “right thing” and felt some remorse for leaving when workloads were insane. I’d never make that mistake again.

I made the mistake of giving notice as my business group was swamped. I didn’t tell them I was going to a competitor and they canned me that day. Do not give any advance warning!! I had been there for many years as a senior leader. They aren’t paying anything extra.

If you say you’re going to a competitor will they still pay out the 2 weeks? And what if you received a 2k sign on bonus but didn’t make it to 12 months?

Just wondering....Why would you tell your employer if you were going to a competitor in the first place? It's none of the companys' business where you are headed. Am I right?

Do not give these swines a 2 week notice! On the last day of employment leave an auto reply on your email that says "GONE FISHING." Let Allstate figure it out. Their managers are very bright people.

I have a few friends in sales that left for a competitor, they gave 2 weeks notice, said they were going to a competitor and they told them they needed to stop working that day, but they were paid for the next 2 weeks. This is what I have seen several times over the past 5 years, the most recent was back in October.

It probably has a lot to do with who the manager is.

Be prepared that when you give notice you will be walked out. Benefits also end that same day and not end of the month. My direct manager also tried to get items that didn’t belong to the company under the guise they reimbursed for them.

Here in auto claims I’ve had several coworkers who had to work the full two weeks because we are so understaffed. This is whether they were going to a competitor or not.

Hi! I work for progressive now and used to work at Allstate. I did not tell them I was going there, because I needed the 2 weeks of pay. They will terminate you, as prior comments have said if you honestly disclose where you’re going.

If you don't disclose that you are going to another insurance company they will pay you the last two weeks. U have has lots of friends leave over the years lol and when they kept it hidden they worked until their last day

I doubt anyone is going to give you free money like that these days. Even if you give a two week notice, you can be walked out at that moment and they aren't obligated to pay you anything beyond what you've earned to date. (and for whatever accrued PTO you may have)

Give a 2 week notice, but don’t say you are going to a competitor, or they will terminate you as soon as your supervisor lets HR know. Or, wait til you are about to start your new position and then give 2 weeks notice saying you are going to a competitor. That’s whats I did, and I haven't regretted a moment since I left Allstate. Good luck with your new position.
