Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I love the fact young people are not sticking around

The attrition is getting worse by the week and it's mostly younger people under 40 who are leaving, at least from what I can see. I love that they're not willing to take the abuse and are taking their skills elsewhere. I'm staying here until retirement (unless they lay me off) but if I was younger, I'd be following them out the door happily.

Under 30 yrs old here. Left a few months ago. I realized I was coasting on easy street.....and that is where careers go to die. Making 50% more money at a top tier and much well respected SaaS company. Get that experience at csco and bounce before you wake up at 40 and "have" to stay for fear of the unknown.

All other tech companies's offices are back open and their people are freely traveling for both internal and external business.

But not Cisco.

That has something to do with it.

Well put. Don't put up with baloney management who, on their own, couldn't manage their way out of a paper bag. The mid- and senior- level politicians are just taking your money, if You truly are the producers.

High performing employees in their 30s definitely make sure you are compensated corresponding for your efforts.

I worked like crazy starting in early 30s with Cisco in the early 2000s. Many times I honestly didn't know if I mentally and physically could keep up with the hours but they definitely made it work my while between raises, stock options, and then RSUs. Good VPs and Directors.

Seemed like back then, that window, everything was good for many. Much was expected in deliverables. Management was generous to those who DID deliver.

That lasted until 2012 or so, which was very fortunate now looking back. The investments have paid off from that window so am very thankful.

2012 or so, the tide started to shift. 2017; ended up a target as now a high-level individual contributor, moved to a new team of professional politicians. Bad part about Cisco, that can easily happen to anyone. One month you are great, two re-orgs later you are out.

You can't keep up the crazy pace forever so find a place that truly rewards you, if you are truly putting in the effort and truly doing the work.

Your mid 50s future You will thank the 30s You for believing in yourself.

31, left a month ago. As you have corrctly noticed, most of my peers in 20-30s are the ones who leave. Its because they simply can not risk spending many many more years over there.

Most of Ciscos businesses are getting attacked left right and center and will have a hard time competing over time. Dependency on legacy hardware will continue to decrease and Ciscos new "software" venues will not balance or improve that effect. The software revenue is mosly dependent on on-premise hardware appliances that will be obsolete or reduced to the minimum. Innovation is non existent, and even my wall street friends/ analysts have told me how the M&A business are ragarded mostly unsuccsessful. Billions spent on target companies over recent years, only to see stagnant top line revenue.

I did spend seven years over there. I did learn a lot about how organizations can run on politics and optics (yes that kind of optics).
