Age of Management & Differences

Have any of you noticed differences in managers younger than 50 and managers over 50?

I have and am curious to other’s observations and experiences.

Among the younger managers have observed backstabbing of their people, too quick to judge, harsh judgements over simple incidents, pump up themselves at the expense of their people. Plus repression of people.

Even under a bad manager you must maintain a good to excellent rating. Once your rating slides other groups do not want you and you are doomed. At that point you might as well leave.

A bad manager is a bad manager. Based on my experience age is not a reliable indicator. It you’re dealing with a toxic manager there is literally nothing you can do that won’t get you black listed/a target. Your only option is to calmly look to move to another group on the premise of broadening your skills/wanting to focus on something else/wanting to enrich your current path. Or look for another job. Oxy(or any oil company) isn’t gonna take your side in a dispute with your manager.

I'm trying to decide if this is a poor attempt at humor or just lame sarcasm.

If anybody concludes anything from comments on this website then they should be mentally evaluated.

@2pvr+1eIrfJ1R, the tone of your post might lead someone to think you are a little bitter about something. One might conclude your young career is not advancing as planned. I’m sure they would be wrong and you are full of sunshine and respect for others, even those old managers.

Age 50 has been used in the past to test for age discrimination in layoffs.

Advice for under 50. Find the one senior citizen that appears to be the most coveted by management in your respective category. Learn their ways and hit cruise control. There’s a very deep sense of entitlement in the 50 and over crowd. Very easy to pick out, very hard to root out (no matter their performance).

To be fair, there are a balance of high and low performers in both age groups. However, if your 50 and over and still have a spot at the O-town, then you have accepted the fact you can’t make it elsewhere and you need to keep your spot on the geriatric roster.

The ones under 50 are indeed younger than those over 50! Just like those under 70 are younger than those over 70.

The ones under 50 seem younger than the ones over 50. Could just be me though.
