Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

The more you work, the more work you receive

There's no winning here. I don't know if this is a company-wide issue or if it's specifically my team issue but to say we're overworked would be an understatement. I make sure to stay on top of my work and finish everything in time but it's become impossible because the management sees this as an opportunity to send more work my way. And when I somehow manage to do it, I get even more work. It's not just me, it's most of the people on my team. This is simply not sustainable. Oxy needs to realize we're not robots, we're people, and we can break if overloaded.

There is only one way to work and that is to give it all you have and then some more.

Lol can’t there be a middle ground here. Op didn’t say they don’t like to work hard, just that it seemed unjustifiably too much work load. I have definitely experienced it.

How did you lazy people ever get college degrees without working hard. Perhaps Oxy’s hiring standards need to be raised. Oxy doesn’t need more people. Instead the company needs a huge purge through a layoff. Then rehire with quality candidates. Just wait for covid to go away and WFH to end. Then the big lay-off happens.

I can attest the same: high performers, single and living closer to office get more work to do. This has been like this for a long time. The only benefit is job security, although stress can give you back and neck pain when close to burn out. No ThankXs or team award compensates for that. Life is too short. Better change careers now if you can. Some Oxys managers won’t change but you can.

People who get more work are sheeple haha. Learn to mess up a few projects so that the work load is reduced.

You could always just put in extra effort to get the work done. There are always nights and weekends.

Just go to your management and explain things and maybe they will get some extra help once they can. Sounds like you and your team stay pretty busy and do good work. At some point you have to prioritize things and do the best you can in the work hours you have to do them. There are a lot of people in the same boat. Once you prove you are good at your work you are rewarded with more work. Be proud you do such a good job in the first place. The fact you all do good work hopefully will be recognized by the right people and the reward will outweigh the workload. It really comes down to being a good worker or workers and just doing a good job. Everywhere I have been this is the case for most of the good workers.

Quit your complaining. Do you have a job and are you paid well? If so then shut-up you lazy individual. Would you rather have them not send you work? I am sure that could be arranged to the point that they fire you. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about breaking.
