CRD just announced a voluntary layoff, with the implied threat of involuntary soon if not enough people signed up.
Does anyone know groups/number of people impacted?

A post mortem analysis :
In one such labs affected by the recent downsizing, one interesting observation was made. When voluntary separation packages were introduced, the intention was perhaps that technical folks with multiple decades of experience will finally retire, thinking of the offer as an added incentive to finally retire.
However it looks like the majority of the people who are leaving are early to mid career folks who are leaving the sinking ship.
So, while the nos. are met for now, Mother Mining will have a Big problem in another few years when the corporate honchos finally realize that the talent pipeline is woefully dry .....few remaining to replace the Baby Boomers.
Out of the 800 or so CRL staff, there are probably 50 to 60 management folks.
Are they affected as well, or is it only technical folks who are getting the shaft.
Just like any previous layoffs, it is probably people doing actual work in the lab who are affected !
Consequently less actual work will get done and more layoffs will happen.

They shifted 80 software engineers from CRL to Health Information Systems a few weeks ago. Probably those people are included in the headcount reduction.

If @2xxn+1eEnwtHX numbers are correct (not doubting at all) and the CRSL alignment in December then 3M will have shed about 20% of its crown jewel corporate research lab. This is in addition to shutting down CRL in Japan and China entirely last year.
Somebody at the investor call might want to ask the CEO, and by that I mean Monish, about this.

CRAL is not impacted.
CRML will lose a total of 25, counting the 17 who left/retired in 2021: so 8 more
CRPL is the same as ML
SEMS, apparently, has been the hardest

Yes this is true.
Just getting started I guess, other groups and divisions surely to be affected at some point in the year ( this is now the 4th layoff in the last 4 years)
