Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

How the mighty have fallen

It should tell you something about the sorry state General Motors is in when a foreign company takes over the spot of America’s top-selling automaker. Props to Toyota, but everybody here should be ashamed of themselves. If you're wondering if we'll be seeing more layoffs any time soon, there's your answer.

Anyone working on a better strategy for charging stations? We’re going to need them if we are going to be “all in” right? Please design one that won’t set my garage on fire while my family is sleeping. Also if I get to a rest stop on the way up north and all charging stations are in use, how long do I wait in line to use one? Let’s talk about that big snow storm that stranded so many. Now that we’ve spent so much time and money on Mary’s EV public relations blitz can GM help create an infrastructure that will work?

Profitability and market share are different things.
I remember with a chuckle the lapel pins the managers rolled out for themselves in the mid 90s ... with the target market share they were going to recapture. I can't remember if it was 27 or 35... something like that. Those were worn for a day or two.

Has GM reopened all the factories it closed because of the chip shortage?

GM will be fine. As market share is lost on the open market it'll be recovered with government contracts.

When the UAW endorses a particular candidate the expectation is we all vote that way for an unlimited fiscal lifeline, preferential policy restricted in way that excludes competitors, and the occasional media hype blitz to help steer or repair reputation or investment narrative. Quid pro quo.

The demand is the largest because companies like GM botched the sales recovery after the pandemic. Let's see how things go with all the new entrants into the market :)

GM has never been better. The market is the largest its ever been, plenty of pie to go around.
