Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

I can't find a new job

I haven't been able to find a new job for months now. I have the option to stay here and wait to be cut or accept an even worse job. It seems that for a better job you have to look for something outside the rail road industry? I would love to hear the experiences of those who have left the rail road or are at least trying to.

NS has cut all jobs from maintenance, to transportation and everything in between. Like all class one railroads, they are pushing the unions to eliminate the craft of conductor on road trains. In 20 plus years of employment with NS, I do not recommend employment with this company.

Get out of railroading and get into a different industry with your skilled trade. The whole rail industry sucks, not just NS.

If you are in mechanical look into maintenance positions. A lot of opportunities and demand there. I’m not sure of your position so I can only tell you my experiences.
