Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

So GM is going to have a vaccine mandate?

Just read this: https://socrates.gm.com/socratessites/usa/en/gm/home/company/news.detail.html/socratescontent/news/usa/en/gm/shared/gmstory/2021/dec/1203_covid-update-omicron-delta-boosters-mandates.html

I've had serious neuropathy after each shot. So now to keep my job in the future with new variants I may now have to accept that I'll get palsy which is debilitating and just as bad as COVID just to keep my job? While statistically side effects are low, it's easy to make the mandate when you're not on the part of the bell curve where you will have problems. Especially people with autoimmune disease such as myself.

Nothing invasive. Either deal with it, or provide a termination date.

I can outlast GM financially, longer than GM can outlast without employees.

The only options I've heard of are vaccination or testing. Maybe work from home could also be an option. Feel free to add information if you have something to say that isn't discriminatory.

Yeah , the college safe spaces are jammed with boomers. They get so upset when asked to select one of 78 genders on a job application and theirs isn’t on the list.

Boomer is not the correct term. They preferred to be called experienced. Earning the highest paychecks for the least work they understand the best way to keep their cushy positions is by impeding other people's work, trashing talk, and sucking up to the manager.

Then they wonder why no OEMs want them.

Boomers run the company. That's why it's a joke. When they don't run the company it will be run by somebody who was able to fit in enough that it won't be an improvement.

The Boomer, America’s most spoiled generation. The ones who were practically handed everything on a silver platter. Any boomer still in the workforce is there because a) they horribly mismanaged their money or b) they have no hobbies, friends, or family to otherwise spend their time on. The anti vaxx boomers are evidence of this easy going babied lifestyle they grew up with. They throw tantrums and refuse just because they don’t like “being told what to do”.

I remember hearing the stories of the people fresh out of college crying when they got laid off. Boomers run the company and don't forget that!

“ GM is preparing for the eventual implementation of OSHA’s rules requiring all companies with 100 or more employees to ensure COVID-19 vaccination of their employees or, for unvaccinated employees, required masking coupled with weekly testing. ”
Looks like testing may be an option. I hope that is the case so that many of us can keep our jobs. I wonder why testing is not an option for many of these companies? It almost seems like they want a reduced headcount.

I know some of you may not like it, but GM is allowed to operate how they please and set the terms necessary for their employment. So long as this is GMs choice and not due to a government mandate (which btw is on hold) then this is just the freedom of the market. Don’t like it, find a different job and if enough other people do that too then they will reconsider the policy.

@2kbz+1e7XXpSc which officials are you quoting?

"We're Hiring" sign on every building all across America. Just happens to be a coincidence.

And while people are at it, reading the FDA reports, only Comirnaty had been approved. If you don't understand what that means, then best do some digging. Or don't. /dice roll.

Officials around the world have already said they have little, to no hope that current shots are effective against this new variant. US has not yet declared it yet, but they will.

It's almost as if people took a co-----l of wonderful shots for no benefit at all. But, they'll get it with the next rounds of shots in under 100 days. And then the next round after that. And then the next...

Two weeks to flatten the curve...
Two months to muzzle up...
Near two years to muzzle up, and introduce shot 1, shot 2, and a booster...

Soon to be two plus years to START the process all over again. Same strategy still works as well as the last one. 🤣

How will GM give us credit for natural immunity?

US officials haven't said anything about omicron severity, transmissibility, or the effectiveness of the vaccine on it because they don't know yet.

It'll take a few weeks to figure it out.

The CEOs of Pfizer and Moderna have said they can make an omicron specific vaccine in 100 days if necessary, though.

Maybe that's what you heard?

You haven't heard? Officials have already stated that shot 1, shot 2, and booster 1, will not protect you from Omicron, aka mo--nic. They'll have shots available for that in a few months. DYODD and look it up, it's not make believe, it's right in the open.

So.... How is it about your protection and NOT control again?

Didn’t click the link but last I heard gm was waiting for the court rulings to pan out before making a mandate.

Secondly if you have a legit medical concern regarding the vaccine Id get a note from your primary care physician. That note should be sufficient to get an exception.
