@1uxq+1e0lFE30 nope, if I learned anything from dealing with boomers, it's that I won't make the same mistakes they did and stay at a company all my life and then troll the internet for sympathy when I get laid off and can't find work because I never learned a valuable skill while blaming it on my age
The disparaging comments toward the older workers are a sign of the times, and not a good one. For all you pompous, spoiled and aggrieved millennials out there finding fault with old timers; mark my words, your day will come and I hope you regret your obnoxious comments.
The only people having trouble finding jobs are unskilled lifers. I know several 50+ fools that have found better jobs (granted they have skills in tech or other valuable fields, not just claims or customer service). If you got to 50+ without getting a skilled job (aka not working in customer service/claims) that's on you for being an unmotivated waste of space
Many in the 45-65 age group (a group Allstate targeted as a part of the layoffs in blatant age discrimination) that were laid off in 2020 have had a hard time finding meaningful full time professional work. I know 1 manager in their 50's that was very good and very technical just within the last month found a professional full time job. Most others, a few from tech who had plenty of skill, I know in that age group had to take local lower paying jobs with minimal benefits because competitors and other large companies would not hire them because of age. For many of these people there was no other reason as they possessed multiple skillsets and various positions that made them well rounded employees. There is definitely a period of age discrimination going on in today's job market and Allstate was front and center in this in the 2020 layoffs. I am sure they will be targeted again in 2022 as they got away with it before by blackmailing those laid off into signing disclosures not to sue or bring about litigation in order to receive the severance that was owed to them. I am of an age well below this 45-65 age group but I am a person of reason and logic and anyone with any clue or sense can see this happening and not just with Allstate. As someone that went back to Allstate after our entire wing of the company was wiped out for what they are rehiring they are without a doubt hiring younger, lower paid, often minority candidates with subpar education and subpar skills just so the higher ups can run off to the bank with more and more money. Of course we all know that starting in 2022 this layoff cycle starts off with the mass India move and these young grunts are just 12 month or so stop gaps until they can get their Pune center and the other soon to be completed new campus in India fully stocked with $5 an hour foreign "talent".
Skills are just fine. Age is the problem. Too old to get a job, too young to retire. One day you will have this problem too!
@wgg+1e0lFE30 if you can't find work in this job market, you must have wasted your career not learning any valuable skills...
I am happy for all who have moved on. However, as one of those unfortunates who are five years from retirement, I have been unable to find any full time job with benefits. Part time minimum wage does not even cover COBRA. Thanks Allstate!!!
Best day of my life to date! Got out of Allstate and got paid for several months, now working elsewhere without having to deal with all the Allstate bs
