Xerox will cave and offer a big payout. Seen it too many times.
Good for him even if it’s not really a race issue. Anyone that wants to take on Xerox for their lack of decent pay good luck to you sir.
Wow must have been nice that he got a raise with his promotion. When I was promoted to manager I wasn't allowed to get the rate increase because there was a freeze.
Hard to believe as Xerox went overboard in pushing affirmative action
in all HR actions..
So, for those of us who are white that didn't get the raises or compensation we thought we deserved..........what do we sue for?
Obviously I'm joking. HR and management go WAY out of their way to make sure everything is "balanced" and have for many years. So much so that I would argue the scales have even been tipped against whites to some degree.
I am surprised he even got any increase with his promotion. In todays environment you are expected to be happy to be promoted or given double the work without a raise as salary increases are always on hold as they have been for last 5 plus years
Defining Base salaries at xerox is like a customer asking a sales rep how much a copier costs.
I'm not surprised he didn't proceed with legal action as he would never win. It's just the new thing people try where you threaten Xerox as in the past they would always just pay you out so they can avoid legal action. Looks like they called his bluff in this case.
I mean all the roles have set job grades with specific salaries so it would be hard to claim discrimination. I guess you could claim that you weren't getting as much SIP or regular raises as others but thats all based on performance and whether you are liked. Not to mention there has been a raise freeze for 10 years hasn't there?
X is one of the most diverse companies in Canada. If anything you are discriminated against for not being black, g-y or female at this point.
From my experience with rating large numbers of people when dealing with raises and promotions, I doubt he was discriminated against.
Senior management and what is left of HR is very careful to make sure we have a balanced distribution. There are huge ranges (tens of thousands sometimes) for each pay grade. People make less because they don't perform at the same level as others.
Of course different organizations may vary some, so while it's possible it's not likely he was discriminated against.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's true.
