How are new people being given more hours than those who have been here for several years? I know there's a shortage of workers and they're trying to keep those who have just joined from leaving but don't they realize how this is affecting the rest of us? They shouldn't be taking it for granted that just because I've been here for a while I'll be staying no matter what. This will not help with attrition, it'll just cause the rest of us to leave.

Why should someone get more hours because how long they have been here. If you are not being productive then they should give the hours to a more productive associate. Everyone who earns their paycheck here is getting all the hours they want. The few that are just bodies keeping the head count up, are not.
All retail does that, so you don't get benefits.
You're not getting hours??? Open your availability up and talk to management. O.T. has been around here for productive associates since August.
People calling in is the problem. Attendance policy is to easy and liberal for the ones that don’t want to work. To many associates plan their work around their personal lives not their personal lives around work. If they have paid their rent and electric and a few dollars in their pockets they call in.
We’re getting plenty of hours, if/when we want it. The store is short handed so I’d actually like to work less. It’s all OT, and right now with gas going up and it seems everything is going up, the extra $$ help. The problem some stores have is people call in a lot, so it’s hard to really get a really good stable and reliable crew on the ground at the store. We have that, we’re just super busy right now. If you’re not getting hours, then I’d go see your department manager and just ask why.
