Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

The workload will get worse

I now work for three people. I am happy for everyone who finds a better opportunity for themselves, and at the same time I am afraid of which of my colleagues will leave next because it automatically means more work for those of us who stay. The bosses either pretend not to see how much we work or think that it’s not a lot of work at all, and that makes me feel miserable. I’m still here because I can’t find another job, but I don’t intend to accept more work from them. It would no longer be possible to endure it physically or mentally, and chances are that the workload will get even worse?

It will get worse. They lie, guilt, and manipulate staff in to taking on more work. The mindset from above is that staff need to suck it up and work harder vs. hiring help. All about the bottom line. They don't and have never cared about you.. and if you don't accept the additional workload, you are looked down upon as not being a team player, and not part of the "family.", and they will 100% eventually build a case to wash their hands of you. There is still a legitimate a sense of pride about how lean and mean the company runs. 6 months into my tenure I was putting in the hours, work for two full-time employees, and repeatedly requested short term contract help which was always denied. Instead, I was saddled supervising spoiled summer students who were more concerned with partying than working. Post below about looking after your health and family is right on. F*** Pembina. This should be the new tagline for the company: Working here just isn't worth it.

Management will keep giving you more to do until you say no. I keep a list and let them decide what I should do or not do. I always have a huge backlog of work but never do any overtime.

I try to keep sane by reminding myself that management decisions created all these problems. If they don't seem to care, why should I?

So many people have left due to poor treatment by management at many levels, ridiculous workloads, etc. Read through the posts on this site. While I'm sure they don't cover all the issues, they will give you a good idea of what Pembina is like to work for if you're not connected to the right people within the company. Pembina pays well, but they treat their people like dirt (actually, dirt probably gets treated better). That's why people leave.

Saw a few great posts on LinkedIn and this one is quite applicable in this case: People don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad managers.

Look after your health and family my friend. I understand it can be scary not having a job, but loosing your health is worse. Best of luck.
