Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Holiday sales won't meet the expectations?

I see that many here think that holiday sales will not meet the expectations.

Would love to know what the arguments are for such opinion or is there just a lot of bitter employees here?
I’m bitter too, but I’m not that pessimistic.

Well said! You really put those skeptics in their place. Yes, Belk corporate has created this culture of everyone out for themselves. "One Belk" has a new meaning now that most people work just hard enough at Belk not to get fired and get paid enough money not to quit!

Once the company stops listening to and caring about the customer, it's over. Poor policies affecting workers translates into them being less than helpful in the stores. Their disdain, apathy, frustration shows shows and poisons the shopping experience. It's justified but when combined with uninspiring merchandise and a tone deaf corporate staff, shoppers, even loyal ones move on. Saw it with Sears. See it with Macy's.

Take a step back and put all the pieces from everyone's post together. If you still can't see...I wouldn't want to leave my ignorant bliss either.

  • Customers aren't being listened to. Top Level stopped listening to them a long time ago. Can't be more apparent than in the amount of clearance items they have on the floor. Now they're leaving ND even when customers are asking for it back...that's not smart. However that is positioning itself for lower sales and for liquidation.
  • Store employees have received a clear message that Corporate doesn't care about them. They only gave them a raise to avoid further team losses. In what world are long term loyal employees giving it 1000% after knowing the new associate next to them is making the same $ they are?
  • Store associates are being mocked/ridiculed by management in different stores. Corporate is aware and doing nothing about it. Either that or HR (who i'm convinced is just a paid actor shuffling paper in the background trying to look useful) isn't stepping up...

Would you want to perform your best when you're working in a place that wears you down and mocks you day in/day out?
@corporate...are we still #onebelk or does that phrase only apply to those making 6 figures?

  • Corporate has created this culture of everyone out for themselves. It starts at the top and trickles down and has been going on since Lisa Harper. Only now you're seeing the trickled portion of it. Nothing else for executives to do but pad their resume with their new promotions and make their next move before the ship truly sinks.

An educated father with his educated son went on a camping trip. They set up their tent and fell asleep. Some hours later, the father woke up his son. The father said to the boy look up to the sky and tell me what you see? The son replied that he sees a millions of stars. The father said what does that tell you? The son again replied astronomically, it tells that there millions of galaxies and planets. Father slabs the son hard and says " Id--t someone has stolen our tent"!

MBA Degree + No Common sense = Belk Chapter 11 Bankruptcy?

1jcx, this board is to share information and opinions. Not an English exam.

Some of the posts are incoherent and frankly sound like they come from uneducated people. If you can’t type a structured, coherent paragraph, stay off this board.

My accounting teacher said in class one day “If your Debits and Credits don’t equal then your Assets are in jail”. Hasta La Vista Belk!

Why won’t it meet overall expectations…because it hasn’t met expectations the last few years and now with less staff, stale merchandise, bland advertising, disgruntled vendors, and stores looking post-apocalyptic level desolate- we’re supposed to believe you’re going to make bank!?

I guess I missed that one class in business school that explained how filing for bankruptcy is a definitive sign your business is doing great…

Belk is the company was bound to be closed sooner or later. Consider the kind of CEOs and executive managers were hired and in charged. A fish rots from the head down after all. Belk Associates might look young, old or mature, but we were not born yesterday! We are not going to fall for your unethical lies and greedy pockets. I am a positive individual telling the truth and Belk Management think it’s He-l😭

That’s what private equity does. They always say the business is not doing well even if it is and they make up lies and excuses to cut costs any way they can. All money flows to the very very top, and those at the bottom are left without a job. They drive all business to closure or chapter 11 bankruptcy and pocket millions for themselves.
