It seems to me that nothing I do is ever good enough for GF. Worst of all the more effort I put in the less valued it is so I'm starting to wonder why I bother at all.
Admittedly, maybe I don’t understand their expectations of me. They seem to prefer not giving their employees a blueprint for success?
No wonder people are leaving.

Basic thing with GF is lies. As long as you are lying expectations are managed. If you tell truth definitely not meeting expectations.
You might know this idea may not work but you should not tell truth instead tell lies it's great idea
GF important lesson is expectation management. As long as you are able to identify their expectations and meet happy expectations and don't reject other expectations they will be happy.
There will be some expectations which cannot be met and even they know it and they expect you to say just working on it.
Some expectations will be attending 11:30 pm call you should not reject meeting invite instead simply select option may be. Later say not feeling well or slept early or alarm not working
