Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

It’s time to unionize

A small monthly fee for representation, better benefits, and and most of all a better work environment is a small price to pay. It’s time.

Summary: whoever it is who wants to start a union……listen to those who have belonged to unions. It’s no panacea.

Unions = Legalized protection racket. Why do you think the mob was so invested in them. Anyone who wants a union is (a) incapable of learning from the past & (b) a complete mo--n.

I got to the office today and was disappointed no one was out front handing out union brochures. When you gonna get this thing going?

Unions don’t put companies on notice until employees elect a union. According to NLRB at a minimum 30% of employees can ask for an election most wait until 50% so it has a better chance to pass. It is employee driven-meetings, discussions all in public-not anonymously on some website or even secret meeting. You want a union -grow a pair and do the work.

Nice try previous poster (likely am HR manager). Contracts are renewed every two to three years and have built in raises.
I encourage everybody to search for unions and make them aware of the issues at SF. Let them do their job and put SF on notice.

Unionize during a time when employers can't find enough people. Sounds like a great idea for the company. Lock in pay now at a lower rate on a 5 year contract with hourly people. Keep them at a level that won't see pay increases during a time when wages will grow across all other sectors. All that to create a grievance process that is the same as what you have and and just keep more bad employees on the clock creating more rework for those who actually do the work. Fantastic plan.

Imagine what would happen if everyone with a sh-t ton amount of PTO actually used it in a coordinated manner? How many of us are one or know someone who defers Taking time off because the consequences of being away from the consistent deluge of work, out way any relief of taking time off. Coordinated time off..

@vqz That wouldn't be much different than what's happening now.

What kind of d0uche downvotes a blue collar worker losing money while on strike? The union did not make up the lost pay but the union president sure made a boatload of money over and under the table.

@vqz exactly. My father was in a union that went on strike 3 times over the years before he retired. He stated categorically that the money he lost not working for 6, 12 and 7 weeks was never made up by the meager increase the union negotiated on the next contract.

By all means. Don’t get paid for for being awol and then spend the next 6 months trying to catch up from the walk out. Sounds like a plan.

It would probably be more effective to organize an employee walk out

Please unionize, it will make writing your EPR so much easier....everyone gets the same 1.5% that your union negotiated for you in exchange for your dues.

I was a Teamster to put myself through college. Believe me, you don't want unions. If you take the money you pay in dues and invest it, you will come out farther in the long run. Remember, you came to SF looking for a job and you can leave there looking for a job as well. Face it! SF is no longer a career and they do not give a rats a-- about you, your family or anyone except themselves and their pockets. They run the place on their chosen few and anyone outside of that is to be used and abused.

So last poster would rather be sc-m than show the elites whose boss?
They will care when they lose talent and have nobody to work these claims.
You can’t hire somebody off the street to do this job. This isn’t McDonald’s.

I wonder if we can reach out to a union and they do all the work so the evil execs don’t retaliate….

Great idea-post your name and contact info here to start. If you aren’t willing to do that then there is zero chance you will do the same in the office.

Time has come today.
Can't imagine how they could even find a scab to fill in for 2 weeks of my work.
They know that.
