I made a slightly risky decision to accept an offer in a company that I'm not sure whether it will be much better for me. It may turn out to be much better there, but also maybe not, because it is something completely different than what I have done so far. So I wonder if it’s difficult to return back to CVX after a while, after the person quits here?

If you want to hold out for the slight chance you can be rehired after you quit then do not cash out your pension ...you do that and HR will block you for three years.
I actually know a guy who was rated a 2-, got mad and quit in a rage. He worked elsewhere but came crawling back a few years later. He was welcomed back. Another guy went to Exxon for seven years but was welcomed back, very reluctantly as he had burned bridges with management. One pompous a s s went to Shell for more money but the cloggies eventually canned him. He begged and begged to come back but everyone hated him so he didn’t make it.
The very few who are rehired are those who retired on their own terms and remain valuable individuals for their knowledge and abilities, not anyone who the company had laid off. If you were involuntary laid off, they will not rehire you.
As long as you are related to a big boss you can leave and come back as many times you want. Fly little one….fly!
Not likely, but I’ve seen it happen a few times during my career, so it definitely is possible. Just make sure you don’t burn any bridges.
Why craw back into a dumpster that is on fire. Go find a dumpster that not burning.
If you are good you can return as many have done after finding out the grass is not greener.
Who keeps reposting this sh!t?
I only know of a handful of people who have done that ans they were hi po and well though of. They also took a step back to get in.
You leave any company because you are not happy or have better career path forward with another, there is no reason to come back, do you go back to your ex girlfriend ex-wife? Doing that only shows lack of maturity which questions every other decision one had made. Be firm on your decision and move on, never look back, life is full of options.
