Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

will there be a layoff?

I am sure some of us want that motivation to look for another job and some time off, I can't be the only one, right? I never felt this way at another place before....

None of the senior management cares if GF goes bankrupt. They have earned tons already and will get golden parachutes even if stock crashes.

GF still making loss.GF need to show profit otherwise share will crash and it will go bankrupt.

If GF not able to make profit then no other way than reducing cost which might mean layoff

@1rpi+1dn6Ae0h guess it depends on the team. Directive in 2018 was reduce headcount w/ carte blanche

The goal of a layoff is not to remove the low performers. The goal is to remove the higher paid employees and redundant workers. If low performers fall into the category, then that is a bonus.

yeah, why not? severance pay and a mental break. Then when you're ready you can find a job at a thriving company with paid relocation to a better area and probably more pay

In the last ones in 2018 they didn’t focus on bad performers at all. I know a number of people that want to be laid off at GF right now

too many people are willingly leaving for there to be a layoff. Sucks because layoffs can be useful exercises to bypass red tape to get rid of low performers.

although, we lost a lot of good people during the 2018 apocalypse
