Severance Pay

If an employee hands in their resignation I've heard from most sources that the employee is usually escorted off-site the same day. If that happens, how much pay would IOL be owing the employee? I know the exact day when I want to resign 18 months from now. If I gave them notice today and was then escorted off-site, would IOL have to pay me out those 18 months or would it be just 2 weeks or what would it be? FYI, I'm a lowly operator in a unionized position with many years experience with the company. Obviously I'm not going to ask HR or my supervisor for their advice and the union is useless when asking questions like this. Anyone got any info?

Things are worse. You were lucky to have exited this company. No future here.
As an experience hire you probably have more skills than any IOL employee that was hired out if school.

I was an experienced hire and laid off last year.
Are things still pretty much the same, people being PIPd and laid off?
I assumed that it will be lot less aggressive since the oil prices and profit margins have increased?

I think the OP is asking if he/she gives their notice today and says their last day will be 18 months from now and IOL subsequently escorts them off-site today, would the OP be entitled to some sort of severance or payout as IOL would now have essentially fired/laid-off/locked-out (I don't know what the actually term would be) the OP 18 months before the OP's intended resignation date. If there is no just cause for a firing then wouldn't OP be entitled to work up until his/her intended resignation date and if not allowed to work until then, entitled to a payout of some kind?

The only employees who typically get escorted after giving notice are involved in sensitive positions (ex M&A) and/or for security reasons. In your position they would likely have you work the 2 weeks notice you gave. If you gave notice now they would give you 2 weeks so don’t say anything until you are 2 weeks out from wanting to be done.

Why should you be entitled to 18 months pay? You get no severance if you resign.
