Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Why has CVE consistently had more layoffs than its peers?

Obviously, during a downturn and a pandemic, layoffs will occur. However Cenovus has, by a large margin, had far more layoffs than its peers. It’s like clockwork here. You maybe get a year off, then there’s another massive round. It never stops. What does that say about the leadership and their decision making?

Cenovus definitely had more dead-weight than it's peers when 2015 hit, but the overall volume of headcount reductions likely only marginally more.

The continuous layoffs by peers hasn't been nearly as publicized though...which is no surprise given CVE's incompetent leadership team

LOL because look who is running it.

You have a plant manager who skiffed the covid travel rules to fly overseas a ceo who threw his own kid into a lucrative position with the company etc

pure disaster

It is no secret that CVE has the worst leadership team in the business. They lack the the innovation and ingenuity to improve profitability beyond simple cost cutting.

They should be ridding themselves of any VP/Director with fewer than 10 direct reports.

Annual layoffs are cultural at Cenovus. That’s why this website is so active.

But, you are compensated for the extra risk you have by working here.
