Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Is there anyone whom RTO makes happy?

I would work overtime every day, for nothing, just to not be in the office and keep working from home. I don’t believe there is anyone who looks forward to fake smiles in the office.

My observation: people like childless spinsters are really into RTO.

People with kids, for example, tend to have no interest in RTO.

Just from my viewpoint

Going to the office is better for your work / life balance. Go in, work your day, close that laptop and then go be with your family. Have activities and a life outside work. When you work remotely, you end up putting in more hours per day than working on site. Remote worker on average put in more hours - for free - that they never get paid for. People think working in pajamas is better, but getting dressed for work allows more focus in a window of hours worked. Enjoy remote while it lasts. You are all going back when the eventual memo comes out.

I would have liked to go back to my office part time, but I am Schwab Green and my office was closed a year ago. Not all smiles are fake - I honestly enjoyed working in that office.

That said, I'm fine working from home and I understand why most people aren't jazzed about RTO - I don't feel secure as a "full time remote" worker and never have. I have no idea what will be expected of me in terms of coming into an office, or if I'm just an easy one to let go.

WFH is a great benefit in that more time is given to producing the work than having to get dressed and fight traffic to get to office and back. You do save more in terms of gas and car maintenance. However, beware that people who work remote can be replaceable with someone who can do the job for less or happens to have more skills geography will no longer pose a limitation for the job. Also, the fact that you are more "faceless" than somebody who is actually in the office may make it easier for management to lay you off. WFH benefit is a double-edge sword. Be prepared to come to work maybe 1 or 2 days a week if they ask even if you don't think it is necessary to.

The only people who look forward to returning are those who think the solution to everything is yet another p-t luck.

Yes, Schwab management. They love to micro-manage, especially the front line people. It's a lot harder to do when you aren't up in their faces all the time.
