Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

There's a method to their madness

I often see people upset that PepsiCo is hiring soon after layoffs or even during a round of layoffs, but there's a good reason for that. They're not planning to keep any of those folks here long-term. They want to use them in the next restructuring so that they can freely get rid of the older employees they actually want to cut without anybody accusing them of age discrimination. A bunch of 20-somethings who've been here for under a year balance out all the 50 and 60+ folks they really want out. And there you have it.

I don't want to move; I was hired to be an individual contributor. PepsiCo has 300,000 jobs. I shouldn't have to move to stay employed. ASHOLE!

There is obviously an ongoing culture of age discrimination at PepsiCo, to act as I f it doesn’t exist is obtuse. I have watched quality people managers get packaged out for years. Being in the people manager role and relocatable is cute, but apparently your not seeing what I have.

Agree with the post below. Anyone thumbsing down that post either doesn’t accept Pepsi for what it is or hopes to change the company instead of adapt to the company.

It's more like this. High tenured employees who don't have interest in upward mobility gravitate to roles that are softer positions.

Over Time, these roles essentially do less and less. Both through effective delegation by the senior Employee and increase in Automation/AI.

Compounding the issue with SR. Employees is they often times don't manage people.

The individuals who make it to 65 usually have broad Direct report responsibility reporting to them.

I don't think there is a KABAL to remove older Employee's. Rather, the above data points.

I have been with Pepsi 33 Years and manage quite a few folks that work across my specific region. I feel I am rather insulated as I will move for the company and I will only take roles that put me in a position to manage people.

This strategy assumes there are people ready to replace the laid off. Where are the desperate unemployed hoards today?
