If we could only send MM and her incompetent goons there and chuckie with fran to salesforce. Those companies would implode just like cisco in 3 years. Then cisco could go back to spitting out over priced hardware with even worse 3rd world written garbage software.

Amazon must need a few consultants turned corporate politicians. They already have an amazing product that sells itself... I guess the next phase is to hire politicians

I don't get the back in the real days comment. Most publicly traded companies have "managing up" culture. 20+ years ago Cisco had a "managing up" culture of salesmen.

I agree with the post on managing up, she is excellent on that, however, just the sad stories that you have to manage up itself is a issue, back in the real days, manager know what you are doing and your values, nowadays, we have to blow our ho-n every second to get attention...I also notice her CMS tenure at Cisco, what a joke! consider every year reorg at CMS and she just did 1.5 years and get out asap.. it is a run down the drain operation, cheaper and cheaper, standardize all the stuff, you can not standardize this cms thing.. the time of 1.5 years shows how clueless it is.. shut all these off.. that org was run by remote director at India, then by marine corp sergeant (bring a friend with him), then by her.. when they were gone, they were all fired. average texture is about 1.5 years.

RB is a typical consultant turned corporate politician. She's skilled at PowerPoint, and managing up.

In terms of hiring, AWS is in the same boat Cisco was in circa 2000: a frenetic search for staff due to a seemingly exponential growth trajectory that's unable to achieve its potential due to a shortage of employees. I know a good handful of average ex-Cisco folks who joined AWS. That's inevitable. It's not like truly unique talent grows on trees and all of it flocks to AWS en masse. AWS can't afford to be elitist and exclusive in hiring, that phase is long gone - years and years ago. I don't know Ruba Borno myself; I've never interacted with her. To her credit, she has an impressive academic background. Time will tell how she fares at AWS, but anyway AWS is so big that her failure there wouldn't cause much harm.

one of my peer went on become VP of some company, she is clueless and just talk high, not sure whey she is so good and can land job left and right.. I dont know anything any more in this place.. I have seen many useless people getting jobs at AWS, was wondering why.. and then I found out some of them are at the same village.. back in India

I thought AWS was allegedly so tight with screening and hiring. I've seen quite a few worthless people go over there. Maybe the exception, or are they hiring anybody with a pulse?

Welcome to AWS Miss. You gonna have to work though, unlike at Cisco where BS and politicking are the work norm. You have to prove yourself in 9 months or you'll be shown the door.

I left Cisco to get away from ‘do nothing’ execs like RB…I hope the AWS culture doesn’t get penetrated by the Cisco semi-old guard ways.

She was completely and utterly useless at Cisco. I was in several meetings with her and she never completed her actions. Whether down to her own inability or lack of room to be able to exert any degree of influence due to Chuck's dominance on the board we'll never know. Either way, good riddance.
