To anyone who's quit: were you compensated for the two weeks after giving your 2 weeks notice? I know the company will often walk you out sooner but I've heard mixed things about whether or not they still pay that money. I am quitting sometime in December and I'd like to give 2 weeks as a courtesy to my team but at the same time I'd prefer not to throw away a paycheck.

@OP Never give notice when you quit a job.
No, the employer has no obligation to compensate you past the moment that you state your resignation. Quit like a pro: take all of your PTO then quit the day that you’re scheduled to return with zero notice.
Why would you have to work until Jan 17? I thought any day in Jan would work, aka Jan 3 and company will pay 2022 vacation? Can anyone clarify? No clarify on the vacation guidelines
On the spot walk out is only if you are going to work for a competitor. Even then if your supervisor thinks they need you they can request an exception.
Normal process of resignation is: 1. Personally talk to your supv/mgr about your intention, 2. Send an email with all the details, including: "My last day is .. __". Your last pay day should be the last day you so said in your email. All the vacation days you are entitled to for the remainder of the year will be paid out separately.
Depends on location. EMRE will grant 2 weeks notice w/o walk out even if going to competitor. Baytown complex will walk out immediately regardless of where next job is.
All done then.
Hope it is future industry you are switching to.
Most people who resign voluntarily still have some respects to their co-workers..sadly most of the people who resign voluntarily are talented people who just want to do their best at work, without engaging so much in company politics and toxic culture...I hope company will try to do more to increase employee morale...
Went to a competitor and was still paid my two weeks. I wasn’t walked out right away either. I think with attrition at the level it is, you're less likely to be walked out immediately. But I’m sure this will vary from business line to business line.
Cheers
hmmm... why not delay you start date to Jan 17 and give notice on Jan 3?
Thanks, everyone. Based at EMHC currently. Not going to a competitor (switching industry just similar engineering) so that gives me some comfort that I can give plenty of notice. I think I am going to notify on Monday.
Side note: I also thought of trying to do it in Jan for the extra vacation pay but unfortunately my start date is Jan 10 and I don't want to be the guy that just drops a bo-b with a 1 week notice!
You should respect your notice period. Unless you are going to competitor, then they are going to walk you out ASAP. And company should pay you during that 2 weeks because you are still working there. Where are you based? 2 weeks notice sounds like too short to me.
Quit in January and you get paid for 2022 vacation time too
Why don’t you quit in January so that you are also owed vacation???
