Here's hoping they provide him with some outplacement and maybe a bit of career coaching.

he wouldn't pass the physical required to be CEO. white collar addiction treatment facility before a hire.
So is the boozer confirmed at Plains or not?
That is interesting to hear. His LinkedIn states that he is CEO at Plains, but there is nothing announced publicly. Perhaps they are waiting for markets to close today. IMHO, he is definitely petty enough to poach business and staff away from Pembina after being shown the door. This should be a midstream soap opera if it turns out to be true.
I also hear that CNRL moved the Horizon contract to Plains and now MD is at Plains. - much less easy revenue for Pembina at a lower cost to CNRL. Probably he will be Brookfield'ing and trying to scoop IPL assets away from Pembina. He will also ruin Plains by overpaying for these assets as he did at Pembina.
A toxic culture will likely begin at Plains run by the guy with LMS with the JMW guy (BD) lurking in the background. He can take is cartoon sketches of 'value chain' with him. We were all tired of seeing those anyway.
Mick is done as a CEO in Calgary. His non-compete clause and the reputational damage with being dismissed puts him into early retirement. He will become a board member at one of his pet charities (United Way) and may start collecting stamps. He was always cordial with me but there are many stories about him being a complete a-ho-e.
The post below is spot on. Find alternate employment.
The suck-ups who were always on their knees with MD and his family have already moved on to worship our new corporate overlord. They were only loyal to MD as he was our leader (and we know who they all are.) Funny there was a post on this site about SB a few days ago that was deleted.... Not certain there will be deep housecleaning. I suspect in the new year we will hear that "all the answers are within", and SB or another white male will be promoted to CEO, then a top shelf re-org will happen. CEO would then dismiss anyone who he hates, doesn't agree with his vision, or is deemed a threat. I'm not holding my breath that it will be an external hire (wouldn't want to rock the old boys rotten boat) but it is exactly what we need. Bring new blood in and gut everyone who looked at him/her the wrong way. We desperately need a shakeup. PS. Look for work asap and contact a recruiter if you are having any trouble finding work. The Titanic is slowly sinking. MD was the male on the ship with the women and children.
To the Pembina Cheer Squad downvoting on this post - your leader and the b-m you’ve had your noses up (through the chain of command) is now gone, you don’t need to support him anymore. And if all goes well, you will be next on the chopping block. Guarantee there will be some more house cleaning coming. Might not hurt to start packing up your personal items.
Mick was a glorified 5'8" used car salesman. He did do an admirable job promoting the company and telling our story.. and was paid handsomely for doing so. Internally, though.. yikes. I always felt he viewed us all as expendable human capital. He was slick at pretending to care. Anyone remember that townhall years ago 2016? where someone texted an anonymous question about workload and work/life balance, and Mick's response was "Well.... everyone is putting in more hours." aka deal with it. And what sane or responsible CEO celebrates the use of alcohol at company sponsored events? At one "Pembina Pour" event, he said "We will always celebrate our achievements with a drink." Pembina social club lunches with a desk full of wine/beer when you walked in. Second drink? Sure 3rd? Do it. How can you consciously send staff back to work inebriated? Stampede party. Same thing. Lots of stories. If you hung around long enough, Mick would invite you back to his house to continue the party. I remember my manager attending his after party one year and showing up to work the next day with bloodshot eyes, incoherent, and drinking water nonstop. Or the Xmas parties with an open bar. My wife was floored to see that at our first party and and how drunk people were. In my opinion, the only person who would promote that is someone who is on the sauce themselves. He was a great salesman, terrible leader. Good riddance and enjoy your privileged life in Hawaii.
Heh. . if you really wanted to shake things up, hire a CEO who is 1) external, 2) a woman, 3) a minority, and 4) pro vaccination
Pembina could cease future layoffs as attrition would take care of that. You would see the deep seeded racism, misogyny, and how regressive the company is with the bigots and bottom feeders suddenly resigning.
Wonder if Mick's departure was him being against mandatory covid vaccinations for staff? (no longer an employee so don't know their policy) He never struck me as a very progressive leader as it pertained to internal matters
To quote Nelson from the Simpsons TV show, and this is directed squarely at MD - “ha-ha”.
Great start, but Pembina has a lot more waste of skin and air executives and managers to purge.
Likely two scenarios (or both) for his golden parachute departure:
1 - personal transgressions/behavior that the board deemed a liability to the corporation and required his immediate removal
2 - the company pivoting in a different direction (rumor is that the company will be re-named Pembina Corporation next year with new vision) and Mick put up a fight
If there is a major in Calgary that desperately needs a transfusion of external leadership, it is Pembina. Please bring in someone to rock the boat and rid the rot within. Shake up all levels of leadership. P1ss off the entitled ones who think they are untouchable, and bring us into the year 2021/22.
My feeling is that SB will require adult supervision and someone to babysit him and the board views him as a puppet. As an employee and shareholder this is incredibly concerning. Bring in an external hire NOW.
When a company's news release states that their CEO has suddenly left to 'pursue other opportunities', that means the board told him to get lost. What a fall from grace for Mick. He was the darling of our industry just a few years ago, and I always felt he was a good captain. MD will resurface somewhere, as a CEO, or on a board or two, or three. If the rumors about his mental health and substance abuse are true, I hope he seeks immediate treatment and emerges a better person. As posted below, the company desperately needs a fresh face and approach in the CEO chair.
Put me firmly in the "who gives a flying f*** about Mick" camp. I understand there are a bunch of evangelical employees at Pembina who love the guy and likely weeping at this news, but you do not get to the c-suite without a trail of bodies behind you, and Mick wouldn't even hesitate to terminate someone's employment if it benefitted him. The culture at Pembina during my 8 years there was toxic. Anyways, my thoughts and prayers to him and his family during this very, very, very difficult time. Hopefully they will all survive on his 7.97 million compensation package that he received last year.
I do hope he was treated better than we were during our layoffs last year: Not given a dime over what was legally required, 2 weeks of post layoff benefit coverage during the pandemic, no extended family assistance coverage, amending the severance schedule days after sending it out to make it almost impossible for someone to have the funds assigned to their RRSP, taking over a month to deposit those funds. The entire circus almost felt like a parting shot and final opportunity to stick it to us. These clowns didn't think about social media and that certain staff would speak out and sound the alarm over how Pembina treated us.
If Scotty takes over, look for new employment. That place is going to shut.
Who did he tick off? What’s the real story?
