Do any other stores have temporary key holders? We have 3 part timers that were given keys as temporary key holders…are they going to replace the real key holders in the building? I’m worried I will be replaced with one of these teens who now have a chip on their shoulder that they have keys.

No temp key holders, but due to being drowned in freight and a spike in foot traffic for Thanksgiving week, we have more temps on the receiving team than associates.
Not to mention that after the layoffs last year, a good chunk of the newly promoted supervisors/managers are paid way less now so there is barely any incentive for even current full time employees to take that added stress and become one.
It’s also because they have no bench left for management. I left the company and there was no one in place in the district ready to take over. So the gave the keys to an associate until they could find someone. No one wants to be in Ops anymore. Cutting staff and layoffs have lead to an issue where there’s no associates in the pipeline when a management or supervisor position opens. Not that there’s any training plan for those positions anymore. Here are keys, sink or swim.
Good luck with that idea! Our operating systems are still so archaic that even seasoned key holders sometimes have difficulty figuring out the issue when something goes wrong!!
It’s likely due to the holiday season. Other retailers use temp key holders for Christmas. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The lack of inventory, on the other hand…
Oh no! Don’t give the corporate gods any ideas! We NEED our full time workers and key turners. I mean yes DEPENDING on who they give the keys to I could trust but you give it to a 16 year old kid and the reputation is OVER!!
It kinda follows a pattern of cost cutting that they’ve already demonstrated.
Part timers don’t get benefits so even if they throw a couple dollars at their hourly rate it would save them quite a bit.
The question is would they do it if they could?
DM and store manager bonuses are based off stores operating cost.
I wonder if corporate would pick up a part timers legal expenses if they were named in a slip and fall type situation.
