The Hyundai article says it was for knowingly putting out poor quality products which GM does all of the time.
The NHTSA whistle blower route is not one you would take instead of reporting an issue via SUFS. It is meant for cases such as the VW defeat device emission issue, where VW was violating the law by using software to produce different emission results on the test versus real world driving. That was a case of cheating on emission regulations under the EPA, but the analogy is accurate.
It's better than a retirement buyout!
The government is giving people money for calling out bad behavior on the part of the automotive industry...and laid off people aren't going to be using GM's internal system!
Will justice finally be served?
Seems to me like going to NHTSA would be a last resort after trying the internal SUFS system. Unless of course you’re just after the money.
