Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

I won't do it!

They hire people who don’t even know what they’re doing. This is understandable considering that some of them have no experience. I feel sorry for each of them who came here and I would love to, as much as I can, help everyone get started here.

However, I won't do it. I used to do that but I won't do it anymore. Why do a favor to Lowe's which takes advantage of all of us? No, sorry!

The new hires have to provide a list of 200 people they can sell credit apps to on their first day.

In other words, you can rise above a bad situation, and you can give it meaning by doing so. You are not a victim, you have agency, and you can be an overcomer. You haven't sold your soul...in fact, you've gained a kind of freedom that can't be taken away.

Yeah, it gets downright embarrassing at times. I know some people will take offence to this and I don't care how they feel about it, for reasons that will become obvious. If you're at work, and you're not busy, and someone needs you to do something that you are able to do, then DO IT. I don't really care if you don't want to--no one wants to be at work, that's why they have to pay you to do it! But you are at work, then someone is paying you, and until you find something you like better, that pays better, well, you agreed to be there at that price. And you can certainly look at it in terms of treating others the way you want to be treated, and what you want to be known for reputation-wise. That makes you feel better about doing a good job, even in really sucky situations. No I'm not a manager, but I will give better service than I get when I am the customer, you'd better believe it.

As a former employee I have to laugh. I’ve gone into lowe’s a couple times and the current employees that know me, (I left 3 yrs ago) try to send customers to me to answer questions Um No! I’m a customer, I find what I need and leave. I currently make over double what I made at lowes. So unless the employee is willing to cough up cash to pay me. There is no chance I’m assisting them. The lazy ones that dodged customers when I worked there are most of the ones that remain. Some are in management now.

My standard line if they ask, I see nothings changed you didn’t want to do your job when I worked here, and I won’t do your job as a former employee.

I did stop my truck in the parking loading zone once when I saw some elderly customers I’d helped for years. I could see them from the traffic light sitting there. I waited 2 lights and they were still there. I drove to the store and they were there. I walked through the store and saw the cashier paging for a loader. And I saw 2 lazy ASM’s chatting with a cashier. I walked past them. Loaded the 25 lb item they were too busy to lift. Said hello to the people. They said this place is horrible now. I said yeah they promote the laziest these days. I said you need a hand? Loaded the item. Went back to my truck as the people drove away a clueless loader looked around and went back inside the store. It had only take 13 minutes by my watch. If it was me, I would have returned the Item. I don’t wait, time is $$

Lowe's doesn't care about training. Just get me some credit apps, customer surveys, do your AP4M and Lowe's university. What else do they have to do? Like actually work in the dept. that they are assigned in and help customers, down stock, zone and maintain what use to be dept standards?

Yes, I've given my best many times to train new people. Many times they lasted a few weeks or months, and that was that. I've decided that if people want to know how to do their jobs, well, they will figure it out. And I'll be there to answer any questions...but they need to ask. Unfortunately I've found that most people aren't all that interested in actually doing their jobs.

they generally have no experience and Lowes does not train people. All the training we do here is watching poorly conceived videos in the training room and then the weekly AP4me which is also useless. Long gone are the days of proper training. As a red vest mentor i am supposed to "train" people?.....not after taking my $5,800 pay cut two years ago. When an individual employee is to care more than the company itself does there is a problem.
