Among those who were promoted in the last five years, you can't find one who knows what he's doing. It's ridiculous how incompetent some of these people are. And please don't come at me with "my manager is great." Just consider yourself lucky that you got the one exception to the rule.

Manager's used to support their direct reports. Those days are long gone. My manager is spineless and definitely not an advocate for his employees. He is basically looking out for himself to hang on a few more years then retire. No manager wants to make waves for fear of some reprisal from his manager. How is someone doing less work than me but gets a HUGE pay increase and no increase for me in years. My manager only cares about himself.
My manager was a joke, so was HR. They were scared of minorities sueing them. This they would literally sit for days on end and do absolutely nothing but talk and play on their cell phones. Non minorities were made to do all the work and received all the discipline. Glad I got the he-l out of Mother Xerox.
My manager is a gem.
GEMS. Wow. There a piece of work. A real Jewel. Can xerox make it any harder to do anything in this job?
What a ridiculous system to use. Make sure you input your performance goals for the period, so they can justify not getting you a raise. Carrot 🥕 on a string. Good Lord.
The last one leaving here, don’t forget to turn Off the lights. 🔦

whats is a 'manager' ? never met mine, and he has no idea what I do.I have no resigned (via gems ofcourse as there are no humans anymore)
My experience has been positive with my direct managers but above them the D-mbfery is astonishing, so glad I baled out of that Sshow.
It's always someone else's fault Sh_t rolls down hill. It's always the case.
Most people that are management in this company are Masters of No Accountability.
That's why they are where they are at... At Least for Now...
Maybe it's you. Seriously consider that.
Maybe I work in an "exceptional" organization, but my experiences have been largely very positive at first line and some at the next level up, over the past 10+ years. Higher levels than that, I'd agree with you wholeheartedly.
Then don’t take the job if you can’t get the support to be successful.
Why be part of this ludicrous situation?
Everyone needs money. I get that. But everyone needs self respect more.
I would add that there's one more type of manager. The type that want to lead a successful team and help their direct reports, but with the span of control increased to the high numbers that they currently are, there's no way they can make much of an impact. And with all the IRIF's and firings of the past 2 to 3 years there's not much back office support.
You are 1000% correct. I cannot emphasize that enough. You basically have 3 types of managers in my opinion.
First is the over his head, trying to make it work, and maybe xerox will come threw type. Freaking out and not answering his phone. Never calling you back. He won’t even call customers back. Scared to upset anyone.
Next is the total jerk manager who feels the need to call you and berate you and your numbers and tell you that your 965th in a team of 975 employees nation wide. Based on his numbers.
Even though you work you bu-t off, and get to work early and have great customer skills. You can never make this kind of guy happy. Regardless of what you do. It’s almost he likes you or he doesn’t. Very political.
Finally you have the manager who is basically a Ghost. You have never met him (because of covid and no actual meetings), he never contacts you at all.
He is always on vacation, medical leave or just plain Missing in action. Likely he’s doing a 2 o clock slide to go home early or at the golf course with an IT guy from a major account. Completely Useless. But yet still a “manager”.
And people wonder why this company is as bad as it is? The people in the field are completely on their own.
Sorry to be long winded but that’s my take on the issue. Extreme Bad Management. Gross incompetency.
Twice Nothing is Still Nothing. Leaving it there.
