How come some people have lost hope for severance pay in case the store closes? Am I missing something?

Find a better place to work that will most likely pay more right off the bat, quit working at BBB and you won't even think of severance. Much better jobs out there with much better companies. You are in luck, tons of places are hiring because nobody wants to work anymore. You could literally start a new job where you are happy within a week. Early Christmas gift for yourself.
Because the company isn’t doing well, and there is no law requiring severance to be paid.
