Does anyone know if we will start getting more hours soon? I started two months ago and got about 16 hours the first two weeks, but then they went down. I don’t know if it’s because I missed some days, but those couldn’t be helped and it wouldn’t be fair to dock me for them. The first time it was because I hadn’t seen my parents much so I needed to spend the weekend with them, then I missed a Wednesday because my car was out of gas and I hadn’t been paid yet and the other time was because I had to study for a test. I asked my manager if we are getting more hours and she just days maybe later.

I am going to take a wild guess and say the original post is a joke. Planted by a "regular" on here
Wow I have never heard an excuse such as this for being in retail for over 30+ years. I guess Adulting is seriously hard for the younger people now days. Before you just had to suck it up and show up for work like everyone else spite having no gas for you car( little secret it’s called having a budget and making sure you have enough gas in the car to get you thru the week)
How the he-l did you make it thru high school~ 7 periods having to study for all 7 classes. Sorry Not Sorry
I feel nothing
Grow up and put on your big person underwear on and be an adult
Oh I forgot that’s not taught in school anymore
You will not get anywhere in the world making excuses for stuff that is called Life
"i made all my other shifts, MOST OF THEM in time too"
you're not helping your case here OP, lol, i'm gonna guess your hours are not going up anytime soon
And the dog ate my homework….
Those are not legitimate reasons to call out. If you haven’t spent time with your parents, then you should have requested time off in advance to do so. Studying for a test? Also something you should have anticipated and requested time off for. The car thing? You couldn’t borrow $5 to get some gas or gotten a ride? I wouldn’t be scheduling you much either. When you get a job, you are agreeing to show up for your scheduled shifts. Managers are not omniscient as to your needs, we schedule for the needs of the business. Also, you could try to make an effort to get the shifts covered yourself rather than leaving the store in a bind. I think you have much to learn about personal responsibility.
Those were legitimate reasons to miss work, I made all my other shifts, most of them in time too. There isn’t anyone named Joe or Tina at my store, so that isn’t the issue.
Sounds like you're a bit young. They will give hours to people who don't call out all the time!! All stores need coverage. Grow up!!
stores get their hourly budgets slashed regularly so the DM's can get nice little bonuses
but also, as short staffed as basically everyone is, they're probably prioritizing people who can show up; no offense, but if it was my store i'd just start assuming you weren't showing up with several call offs in the first 2 months, sorry
problem isnt just you, its when you have an issue working the hours and joe has an issue working the hours and tina has an issue working the hours-it all adds up to no coverage on the floor.
Sounds like work is a low priority if you are calling out for those reasons.
Also try to ask often for hours during the week as with any store there will be call outs and that opens things a bit.
After working a few stores it honestly depends on the volume store you work at. But with the Holidays coming up I think every store has to be boosting hours so even with your location they should be giving the hours you desire. With management you have to keep asking and try to ask different managers as well since communication is never consistent.
Just wait till January when they really cut back .😂😂😂
