Thread regarding Nationwide (Insurance and Financial Services) layoffs

Layoffs at Nationwide

I think we're due for more layoffs sometime soon. I'm worried it could happen before the end of the year. Let me make it clear that I haven't heard anything concrete. This is just a feeling based on my nearly 12 years of working here. There is always the quiet before the storm hits, and I believe we're in for a major one.

I very nearly headed for the door myself. Took me a month to talk myself out of it. I still might. It’s not the increased workload but the company’s lack of foresight and indifference to employee responses to their actions that get to me. Anyone could have seen this enormous influx of work coming a mile away. So why didn’t they respond more proactively to it and get people up and running before it got really really bad? Why did they choose this time to implement radical process changes that would only make the confusion and customer anger worse? I’m used to heavy workloads. What I’m not used to is seeing the company as an obstacle to getting the work done.

I left a few months ago and it was one of the best feelings in the world getting off that derailing train. I got paid very well in my position but no amount of money was worth my inner peace. My family and I are much happier!!!

Lately, there has been a mass exodus of associates leaving NW, so I doubt we will see any layoffs in the foreseeable future. If they do let more people go, it will not turn out well.

Just heard they are HIRING in my area. A whole boatload of people. Go figure.

They went through a major restructuring last year closing most of the smaller regional offices and transitioning many to permanent telework last year.

It'll be interesting to see the direction they go moving forward whether that means more remote jobs and shedding expensive real estate costs or layoffs where everyone is vulnerable to technological change and outsourcing.

They are already happening. I heard of one today. They usually do it in small increments, department by department, not in big waves. Easier to fly under the radar that way. If your job is suddenly too cushy or you know of some big techy change that’s going to reduce the workload then get ready.
