Thread regarding CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield layoffs

Have we forgotten the layoffs of the recent past?

Let’s get out of the vaccine mandate. Have we entirely forgotten the layoffs in our departments or is this a blog of entirely new associates.

Consultants are hired to give senior leadership cover for making unpopular decisions. As soon as McKinsey walks in the door you can guarantee that jobs will be eliminated within three to four months. Unfortunately, the problem isn't with the rank and file, it's with leadership and those folks seem to be safe from ever losing their jobs no matter how f*ng bad they are at doing their jobs. Luckily PowerPoint and other tools are there to help them put lipstick on a pig and pull wool over eyes. They go to meetings with one another and complain about how bad the staff under them performs. Never them. Always the staff they hired. They are singularly doing all the work at the company and if they just fire a few more people, reshuffle and rehire everything will be better. There is no sign that this formula will be shelved anytime soon.

What a surprise. Typical McKinsey. Grand plan, big bucks, reorg, layoffs, then can leadership responsible for masterminding this botched plan. Seen it before. Laughing to bank are DK and McKinsey/Deloitte.

The only real value of these consulting groups is to (a) shield executives from blame if plans fail (and then fire the consultants) or (b) take credit when things go right. I have rarely seen (b) occur as the consultants are too young and green with even partners lacking needed skills.

I have said it before and will say it again: what is it that the consultants know better about our core business, operations, and markets that are in house expert difference makers do not?

Yes if you are in IT. We met last week to talk about change and sounds like things are going back to the way they were before DK.

It may be sooner than 2022. At least a re-org is imminent. Probably announced in the next few days.
