Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

New Round of layoffs

Just got the notice that more layoffs will be announced in two weeks. Looks like they are ant to reduce head count and counter it with mandatory overtime.

Icahn's, I mean Xerox's lawyers, are well funded and very well experienced at this. Age discrimination is hard to prove without the data, and Xerox controls the data. In addition, with their funding, Xerox's lawyers will use every legal trick in the book to delay any suit from reaching a Court until the claimant runs out of money themselves and has to cease or settle or until they will no longer at Xerox. Of course, you should be able to go to HR for help. Just keep in mind that Xerox's HR leader developed the bonus program for Icahn's raiders, jammed the reduction in severance with no notice days before the first round of layoffs hit in 2018, and was given north of $1 Million in stock in addition to salary for her efforts. Don't hold your breath.

I haven't read the full OHSA release yet, but I believe that is correct with one big exception. Those rules are for companies with over 100 employees that are not Federal Contractors. Federal Contractors have different rules and Xerox is a Federal Contractor.

I hate it when people post incorrect info so I'm going to update my post below. When I made it yesterday there had not been an official direction from OSHA on getting the shot.

Today though (11/4) OSHA issued their direction on getting the shot for companies that have more than 100 employees. The following employees are exempt from the mandate though:

  1. Those who don’t report to workplaces where others are present.
  1. Those who work from home.
  1. Those who work exclusively outdoors.

So we should expect the exec team to follow that direction, except you know they won't. They'll continue to say everyone in the US must get the shot, even those working from home, or get fired.

They sprinkle in just enough younger employees so they can make the case that it's not targeted at older workers. Besides, who has the time and money to hire a labor lawyer and sue? And, to get the severance you have to sign away your rights. So they know there's a low risk of litigation.

There were CRITICAL employees laid off in 2018/2019 that crippled the business (and I'm sure more in the layoffs since then). But the exec team expects others to take on the work that the laid off people were doing, thereby saving a ton in salaries and benefit loads. Yes, the performance of the business takes a hit, but proportionally they believe the company saves more in the short term.

What needs to happen is a large scale walk out, in all geographies and business units. I was hoping the vac mandate would make a large enough group of people fight back but based just on the feedback here that doesn't look promising. Most just seem willing to bow down to the mandate even though there hasn't even been a direction from OSHA yet on it. It's currently just the exec team saying "here's what you have to do, even though there's no law in place yet". (Hint - an executive order isn't law. It only affects govt workers and agencies)

So, until enough people stand up and say "enough" the corporate team will continue rolling over you. They're using the "boil the frog slowly" technique.

First it was the large lay offs of the older employees.

Then it was "you have to take on 2, 3, or more additional roles to cover for the people that were let go".

Then it was taking over GIS and destroying that very successful structure.

Then it was "sorry, no 401k match this year" (which was announced close to the END of the year, after people had already been contributing, with the expectation of the match happening)

Then "you have to get a vaccine that you don't agree with or you'll likely be fired for non-compliance" (which means no unemployment eligibility).

Any ideas on what's next? I can guarantee you it won't be favorable to the employees. And if we don't push back as a group it will continue to happen until the pieces are sold off and we're all out of a job.

What I don't understand is lwith them laying off older and those with known illnesses people, how hasn't Xerox been sued? This is ageism and discrimination at its best. Sad thing is that it happened to me and I was one of the busiest people in my department who happened to be diagnosed with a disability during my employment and I'm not young but I'm not retirement age either. And I looked at others who also were laid off, and realized they too were from the same age range and I can state one of those people also had a disability. Coincidental? No. The people making decisions are HEARTLESS AND CRUEL

Omg. I absolutely hate this company for what they have done to their employees and their customer base.
Any way they can sc--w with people, they take that option.
What is it going to take for people working here to wake up and realize this place is as responsible as a drunk soldier. They will bury you and laugh about it. Get out of Dodge now. The Marshall is not coming. 🐎🏇
You are gonna need one heck of a posse to turn this ranch around. 🌵

Staying here is Not the Best decision you are making anymore. 👋🤭

Place Is an absolute joke. That’s why I left. On my own, my own way. This place and their long mindless emails and stupid decisions is amazing. No one in their right mind should buy Anything Ever from xerox. They are people leaving in drones from this company. Lord help anyone stupid enough to deal with the burned out shell of this company. Amazingly stupid actions and policies. I hope they get everything they deserve and more.
Payback is a B_tch.

Well, I'm one of the "older ones" not taking the jab, and so ... good riddance, Xerox.

As someone else mentioned, they are laying off the older employees and hiring younger ones. Younger employees have less vacation to use, their health insurance premiums are much cheaper (the part the company funds), and their salaries are much cheaper. Everything this company is doing is targeted at reducing cost, so they are willing to take the short term "knowledge and experience" negative hit in order to save a lot of money.

If you knew any of the people let go in the big IRIF waves in 2018/2019 you know they were mostly older, higher salary employees.

Also, they are betting that the vaccine mandate will also cause a larger percentage of the older workers to quit. None of the younger workers are objecting to it, yet many of the older ones are.

Hiring and laying off at the same time?
Truly supports Xerox disfunction and
general mismanagement that has plagued this company for years ..

Even though they will never admit to it if asked the older people are being targeted so yes, there are layoffs planned for December 1st. At least in the Mid South region. The job fairs are to attract and hire younger people making half what the older people were making. Xerox is not the only company that goes this route. It's a money saver and yes, it sounds counter productive to get rid of highly experienced people but they are the ones making the huge salaries.

Every organization I'm familiar with is hiring, and no they aren't hiring to replace people they let go. They are hiring because of attrition.

What org is the OP speaking of, if any?

I don't know if this applies, but Xerox is having a job fair in Webster NY today.

Seems odd to layoff and hire at the same time.
