MW definitely knows how to raise the very low morale at the company by telling the office staff they are just overhead since we are not making the money. I agree our workers in the field are really important and should be commended or even given extra pay for staying on the job during covid but it doesn't mean our office staff are just wirthless overhead. Got to have them to keep the company running. If anyone is overhead its our very overpaid executives.

You are all whiners and should just be glad to work for a company that pays so well, has flexibility and such a great retirement plan. If it is that bad , then quit and see how it is in the other pastures. Go see if it is that much greener.
Wall Street and CNBC love Mike. He’s not going anywhere.
The Board is becoming increasingly disillusioned with MW. He will not finish his full tenure. Look for a replacement before end of 2023 latest. He will suddenly resign to spend more time with family, just like he did 30 years ago.
It would be nice if CTC folks stopped making the BUs add more things that take time, drain resources, and decrease our competitiveness. Minimum functional thinking would have a much smaller CTC.
not directly........ That would make him an overhead then too
what about the supply and trading folks?
we are pulling in big bucks too
At least he didn’t tell us to grab the barbwire and stop the victim mentality while reminding us of the small parochial place we seat. #BrightSide Am I right?
All Wirthless cares about is keeping wall street buddies like Jim Cramer happy. Big dividends and share buy backs while laying off employees. Its a dream come true for wall street. I guess he's better than EM's ceo who borrowed for the dividend to pad his pockets but not by much. He's the true overhead.
M Wirth is not “Worth” much. Just like The Who memorialized; “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. We won’t be fooled again.”
There was a town hall? Sorry, I was too wrapped up in post transformation agile (Derby) change to attend. Anything of substance? MW going throw us some crumbs or to the wolves for that record breaking free cash flow quarter? On that’s right, I’m just overhead.
Does he count his African garb as overhead?
@1ajc+1dC654JS Amen. MW needs to go to layoff rehab.
Lets be honest. MWs real legacy at Chevron is laying off people. Lead downstream in 2009, midstream in 2012 and upstream 2014-2020. Optimization (laying off people) is what wall street loves. Ruining one family at a time while lining his families pockets for generations.
If i were to give him a fair shake, id say his intent was to say basically that “anything that isnt directly pulling oil out of the ground or refining it is ‘overhead’ to an oil company”
Still quite a out of touch slip to make if thats what it was.
I was generally pleased with most of his responses though. I dont care what he calls indirectly refers to us as, long as i get this cozy paycheck, benefits, and flexible schedule he can say what he likes. Its what he does with the company that i care about.
