Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

People calling in

People calling in is the problem. Attendance policy is to easy and liberal for the ones that don’t want to work. To many associates plan their work around their personal lives not their personal lives around work. If they have paid their rent and electric and a few dollars in their pockets they call in.

Exactly, @2bhd+1dw77tNO, that's the problem but I don't know what is the solution?

Retail has a poor life to work balance. I worked retail since I was 18 I am now 35. I quite Walmart after almost 10 years earlier this year. I work a non retail job now M-F weekends and holidays off. There are a lot of places hiring and now would be a great time to start looking. But I don’t blame people in retail for calling off. They are expected to put job over family in retail and that’s not right. Family first. And who cares if someone calls off?? Mind your business, worry about you, do your job and go home.

The real issue here, is that most businesses, especially retail, expect you to prioritize work over family, to an extreme degree! A family member could die, and you'd still be expected come to work like it's nothing. And most places, having a life outside of work is not possible.

Yes, it’s about responsibility. You can prioritize family over work and still be successful in your job if you know what the key things are and you do them.

The problem is, people are looking for the easiest way to get through life and they aren’t willing to put in a good day’s work so they can get higher paying positions, etc.

You can see that everyday, just look around you.

@2bhd+1dw77tNO, what's wrong with prioritizing family above a job?
