It was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I pretty much asked to be on the list as I was ready to retire anyway, but my wife was worried I wouldn't have enough to keep me busy.
That hasn't turned out to be a problem.
I have more money than we'll ever need and can't figure out why I stuck around that hellhole as long as I did.
My advice: get out as soon as you can, while you can, and don't look back.
I’m thinking everyone who got laid off should file a class action lawsuit, especially since MPC got 1.1 billion from the fed so they wouldn’t have to! How much did executives give themselves for bonuses?
Probably made them a favor, does this company has any hope for growth or long term survivval?
I was asked back about three months ago, and again recently. Once for the same role I held, the second for a very similar role in the same asset. Both would essentially have brought me back whole with the same pay and leave.
I turned both down, having found employment elsewhere. After Thinking long and hard on the matter, I’m pretty sure I would have turned it down regardless my current employment status. My time spent working at Marathon was the most unproductive, unfulfilling, wasteful time in my career and the pay and benefits always barely kept up with the bottom end of the range for my position. Not only in oil and gas but in other industries as well.
I’m happy, I’m respected, my opinion is valued, I have zero concerns about some childish clique and I am compensated far, far more than I was while with Marathon.
I would say thanks for the experience but my time spent with Marathon was the only thing on my resume that was not referenced by my current employer.
Now that it has been a year, I believe, those employees who were cut and signed the TAP package are allowed to work for the company again. Do you think that MPC will consider rehiring some of those employees? I would love to see some of those employees return if they were interested. Has anyone heard what the view is on this?
Now they are hiring for a bunch of positions and flush with cash. With the severances that were paid, I don’t see how they came out ahead. It’s like letting people go was just for optics and I can’t believe people were treated that way. MPC didn’t even buy lunch for people kicked out the door after 35 years.
Gonna be round two once they roll out the Vax mandates. They're playing like they won't, but it is only a matter of time.
I’m still here, and life is great! No other place I would rather be.
Thanks for remembering us. It is solemm to remember the sense of betrayal I felt that day. I am happily employed but will always carry my wounds from this heartless betrayal.
